The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most-watched sports tournaments in the world. Since being established in 2008, the league has grown immensely in popularity due to its exciting format, where players from around the world compete in nail-biting matches. IPL matches are not just about cricket; they are about entertainment and often risk, with many fans choosing a trusted cricket betting site to bet on their team . With cheerleaders, music, and colourful team jerseys, it's like a festival for cricket fans.

One of the main reasons for its success is the huge amount of money involved. Players are bought and sold crores of rupees in auctions, and sponsors pay hefty amounts to be associated with the league. This money makes IPL one of the richest sports leagues globally.
Despite some controversies, the IPL has maintained its popularity over the years. Its longevity can be attributed to its ability to adapt to changing times, introduce new innovations, and provide fans with high-quality cricket entertainment year after year.

IPL Format

The IPL typically runs from March to May each year, overshadowing international cricket tours due to its exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.

Since its inception in 2008, the IPL has undergone several changes due to franchise suspensions, drops, and renaming. However, the upcoming season will continue to have 10 participating teams, as has been the case for the past two seasons.

The league schedule includes day games starting at 3:30 pm IST and night games at 7:30 pm IST.

Organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL follows a round-robin group and knockout format. At present, the 10 teams are split into groups of two, with each team participating in 14 matches. While the total number of league matches remains at 14 for all teams, they will not face each other twice as was customary during the IPL's 8-team era.

Under the current arrangement, each team will play five opponents twice and the remaining four teams once, with two matches played at home and two away. These matches are determined by grouping teams based on their total IPL victories and appearances in final matches.

A total of 74 matches, including the playoffs and the final, will be played in the IPL 2024. Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions, having secured their fifth title in the previous season.

IPL 2024 Schedule

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in India are scheduled to take place from April 19 to June 1, which is why the complete schedule for IPL 2024 has not been released initially. The schedule for the first 21 matches was released first and on 26 March BCCI released the remaining schedule of IPL 2024. The IPL 2024 final will be held at Chennai’s Chepauk on May 26.

The first match of the season will be played between CSK and RCB at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22 at 7.30 PM IST.

New Rules in IPL 2024

Most rules for IPL 2024 are the same as last season. The 'impact player' rule, permitting the utilization of one substitute, remains unchanged. The incoming player must be Indian unless the team hasn't utilized their four overseas players. Reviewing wide and no-ball calls remains permissible.

However, a new rule for IPL 2024 has been introduced: Players can now deliver two bouncers per over, as opposed to one. For the uninitiated, in T20 Internationals, the International Cricket Council (ICC) permits only one short ball, whereas in Test and One Day International (ODI) competitions, two bouncers are allowed. There have been no changes to the standard cricket betting rules across the tournament however.

Additionally, in the IPL 2024, there will be no stop clock rule—a recent change in the ICC playing conditions for all white-ball games.
