The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has become one of the most popular T20 leagues in the world since being established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. The tournament has contributed significantly to the growth of cricket in Pakistan, providing young players with opportunities to showcase their skills on a global stage. It also features some of the most famous international players from across the world. 

The league has completed eight seasons so far. Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars have emerged as the most successful, teams each clinching the title twice. Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions, hold the distinction of being the sole team to successfully defend their title, achieved in the 2023 season. The league has witnessed some sensational batting performances over the years. Check out a list of the most runs in PSL history below.

Babar Azam

The record for most runs in the PSL is held by Babar Azam, who has scored 2935 runs in 77 innings at a strike rate of 124.84. Azam has scored 28 fifties and a century in the league. In PSL 2020, he was awarded the Player of the Tournament award for leading the run-scoring chart with 473 runs in 11 innings. Last year, he was the second-leading run-scorer with 522 runs. At present, Azam, the best batsman in the tournament, captains the Peshawar Zalmi, having previously played for Karachi Kings and Islamabad United over the past seven seasons.

Fakhar Zaman

Following Azam on the list in the second place is Fakhar Zaman, who has scored 2368 runs in 76 innings at a strike rate of 142.30. Zaman also holds the record for the most sixes in PSL (100) and most runs in PSL 2022. That season, he scored 588 runs in 13 innings at an average of 45.23. Representing the Qalandars throughout his PSL career, the veteran batsman has played several match-winning knocks. 

Shoaib Malik

Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik is the third-highest run-scorer in PSL history. Malik has scored 2082 runs at a strike rate of over 129. PSL 2022 was one of his personal best seasons, when he scored 401 runs. Malik is currently with the Karachi Kings, but has played for Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the past. 

Mohammad Rizwan

One of the all-time star performers in PSL history, Mohammad Rizwan takes up the fourth spot on the list. Rizwan, who scored the most runs in PSL 2023, was also the second-leading run-scorer in PSL 2022. Having amassed nearly 1,000 runs across the last two PSL seasons, Rizwan is one of the top players to watch out for in the upcoming PSL 2024. 

Kamran Akmal

Kamran Akmal, who scored the most runs in PSL 2017, is fifth on the list with 1972 runs at a strike rate of over 136. He was the standout batsman in PSL 2017, amassing 353 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of almost 130.

Rilee Rossouw

South African batsman Rilee Rossouw is sixth on the list, having scored 1867 runs in 70 innings. After playing for Multan Sultans in the past, Rossouw will be representing the Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2024. 

Mohammad Hafeez

Veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez has scored 173 runs at a strike rate of 124.4 in his PSL career. The 43-year-old was not picked in the draft for PSL 2024. Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, and Peshawar Zalmi are the teams he has previously played for. 

Sarfaraz Ahmed

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is also the captain of the Quetta Gladiators. He is the seventh-highest run-scorer in PSL history, having amassed 1503 runs at an average of over 123. 

Shane Watson

Another overseas player who has scored a truckload of runs in the PSL is Shane Watson. The Australian batsman has scored 1361 runs at an average of 32.50 and a strike rate of 138.59, including nine half-centuries.

Rounding off the list is Multan Sultan’s Shan Masood, who has scored 1318 runs at an average of 31.38 and a strike rate of 133.94. He was also the third-highest run-scorer in PSL 2022 with 478 runs. 


Who scored the most runs in PSL 2016?

Umar Akmal was the highest run-scorer in PSL 2016, with 335 runs in seven matches at an average and strike rate of 83.75 and 157.27. The second-highest run-scorer was Player of the Tournament Ravi Bopara with 329 runs at an average of 54.83 and a strike rate of 132.12.

Who scored the most runs in PSL 2018?

Luke Ronchi of Islamabad United was the leading run-scorer in PSL 2018, amassing an impressive total of 435 runs. Others in the top five run-scorers in PSL 2018 were Kamran Akmal (425 runs), Babar Azam (402 runs), Joe Denly (323 runs), Shane Watson (391 runs). 

Who scored the most runs in PSL 2021?

Babar Azam, for the second consecutive year, was the leading run-scorer in PSL 2021 with 554 runs in 11 matches, followed by Mohammad Rizwan (500 runs), Maqsood, Shoaib Maik (354 runs) and Sharjeel Khan (388 runs).

Who scored the most runs in PSL 2023?

Mohammad Rizwan was the leading run-scorer in PSL 2023 with 550 runs, followed by Babar Azam (522), Rilee Rossouw (453), Fakhar Zaman (429), and Imad Wasim (404).
