Gerwyn Price (born on 7 March 1985) is a distinguished Welsh professional darts player renowned for his exceptional skills on the oche. Prior to his remarkable darts career, Price displayed his athletic prowess as a former professional rugby union and rugby league player. Widely known as "The Iceman," he currently holds the prestigious position of World No. 5 in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), where is won the prestigious World Championship in 2021. 

 

Having ascended to the upper echelons of the PDC Order of Merit in 2016, Price swiftly secured his inaugural Pro Tour title shortly thereafter. His breakthrough continued in 2017 when he emerged as the runner-up at the UK Open, marking his first major event final. Additionally, Price has graced the stage of the renowned Premier League Darts tournament on five occasions, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the darts world.

 

Price made headlines in 2018 when he clinched his first major victory in a somewhat controversial manner at the Grand Slam of Darts tournament. Undeterred by the scrutiny, he went on to successfully defend his title in 2019, etching his name in history as the first-ever Welshman to conquer the tournament. The accolades continued in 2021, as Price triumphantly secured his third Grand Slam of Darts title, further cementing his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional darts.

Functioning as a hooker, Price lent his talents to Welsh Premier Division teams Neath and Cross Keys. His rugby league ventures included stints with the South Wales Scorpions and Blackwood Bulldogs, where he earned caps with the Wales Dragonhearts. 

 

The diversity of Price's rugby experience extended to a brief period with Pro12 side Glasgow Warriors, where he provided injury cover for their primary players. Notably, during his tenure with Cross Keys, Price contributed significantly to their success, as they clinched the 2011–12 WRU Challenge Cup, with Price himself scoring a try in the final. 

 

Despite his achievements on the rugby field, Price made a pivotal decision in 2014 to conclude his rugby career and redirect his focus towards playing darts on a full-time basis, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in the world of professional darts.
