Date: 08 -11 May 2025 Venue: Wissahickon Course, Pennslyvania A PGA Tour signature event, the Truist Championship is set to tee off from the Wissahickon Course of the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Pennslyvania. The PGA Championship is being held at the Quail Hollow course, hence the shift of the Truist Championship. Defending champion, Rory McIlroy returns to action following his career Grand Slam victory at the Masters just a few weeks ago. Securing victory here won’t be straightforward though, the field is littered with superior names such as Zander Schauffele, Colin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.

Tournament Preview

As one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events, the $20 million purse and no 36-hole cut brings together some of the biggest names on the golf circuit. This year’s course is notoriously unforgiving and presents a challenging test with its sloped greens and staggered bunkers.

There is no doubt that Rory enters the tournament in incredible form, and when you consider his familiarity with the course, he becomes a serious contender. Interestingly enough, the current world number one – Scottie Scheffler – has opted to skip the tournament to prepare for the upcoming PGA Championships. A move which inevitably offers opportunity to other players.

Contender News

At the risk of sounding repetitive, it would be remiss to not once again talk about Rory McIlroy. His Masters win ended an 11-year championship draught and if the critics are to be believed about his resurgence, he has to be a favourite here.

Xander Schauffele – last year’s runner-up – continues to demonstrate how vital consistency on the golf course really is. He is no doubt a contender here again and you can count him out at your peril.

Colin Morikawa’s precision and recent top 10 finishes indicate he is in incredible form. Justin Thomas has already indicated that he looks to find a bit of momentum going into the PGA Championships, but with the quality in this field, the title really is up for grabs.

Suggested Bets

SportsBoom has whittled down all of the various betting options to the following for your consideration this weekend.

  1. Rory McIlroy to Win Outright: Given his current form and past success at this tournament, the Irishman is our firm favourite. 5/1 (6.0) with 1xBet

  2. Russel Henley Top 10 Finish: His attacking prowess is unquestionable – even if he did disappoint at the Master’s. Back Henley to find a strong finish. 4/1 (5.0) with Pinnacle.

  3. First Round Leader – Maverick McNealy: He isn’t necessarily going to be a name on everyone’s lips this weekend, but the pace with which McNealy often starts is incredibly impressive. He is a bit of an outside pick, but back him to lead the pack after the first round. 33/1 (34.0) N1Bet.

Tournament Prediction

The field is littered with talent, the quality on displays this weekend is clear for everyone to see and with strong contenders in every nook and cranny of this tournament, finding a winner is a tough ask.

Nevertheless, given the form that Rory is in – we are behind him here.
