2024 Formula 1 team news
History will be made as all teams will retain the same lineup from the last race of the 2023 F1 season going into 2024. In the 2023 season, the sole alteration occurred at the former AlphaTauri team, replacing Nyck de Vries with Daniel Ricciardo from the Hungarian Grand Prix onwards. All driver and team pairings from the previous season's final round are poised to stay unchanged.
However, ahead of the 2024 F1 season, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season, causing a seismic shift among fans and the Formula 1 community. This move is considered one of the most significant transfers in F1 history.
Hamilton to join Ferrari in 2025
Hamilton began his Formula 1 journey with McLaren in 2007 before making a bold move to Mercedes in 2013. During his time with Mercedes, he established himself as one of the top drivers in the sport, clinching four consecutive titles from 2017 to 2020. His partnership with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is considered one of the most successful in Formula 1 history, extending beyond the confines of the racetrack. Hamilton secured six World Drivers' Championships and contributed to eight consecutive World Constructors' Championships with Mercedes.
In recent seasons, the 39-year-old driver has faced challenges, potentially prompting his decision to seek a new team. The British racing icon will aim to conclude his tenure at Mercedes with a significant victory.
Verstappen is the top pick
Max Verstappen, a three-time world champion and the current title holder, is the clear favourite to secure his fourth consecutive World Drivers Championship in 2024, owing to the notable disparity in both car and driver performance from the previous season. In the pre-season testing that took place took place at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir from February 21-23, 2024, Red Bull and Verstappen were well ahead of the other teams and drivers.
Team rebranding
In team news, Alfa Romeo has reverted to their original name, 'Sauber,' while Scuderia AlphaTauri will now compete as the Visa Cash app RB F1 team.
