Mark Selby has a strong record against Stuart Carrington.
Suggested bets
Our suggested betting strategy for this game would be to back the favourite, as it is unlikely that Carrington will claim the win. Selby is in mixed form but there is a gulf in quality between the players.
Mark Carrington win 4-2: 4.50 (7/2)
Head-to-Head Record
The two have faced off seven times before with Selby winning six of them. The last time they faced each other in an encounter which was best of seven frames, however, Carrington won 4-2. That was at the 2019 Riga Masters.
Given that their clash at the Scottish Open will be best of seven frames, Carrington will be looking for a repeat. However, Selby will be confident given how easily he beat Carrington 6-2 when the pair last faced off at the International Championship in China last year.

Players performance and statistics
Mark Selby
Mark Selby is fourth in the World Snooker Rankings. He won the British Open in September, beating Scotsman John Higgins 10-5 in the final. This was the Leicester-born Selby’s first ranking title since March 2023. He is considered one of the best snooker players of all-time despite his recent slump.
Since then, his form has been erratic. He lost at the first hurdle to Louis Heathcote at the Northern Ireland Open. Selby then progressed into the last 16 at the International Championship in China, where he was beaten by Gary Wilson.
At the Champion of Champions in Bolton, eventual runner-up Xiao Guodong beat Selby in the Group finals, the Englishman’s second fixture of the tournament after he beat countryman Shaun Murphy.
Selby fell at the first hurdle at the UK Championship to Jack Lisowski. He has won 10 out of his last 14 matches with a win percentage of 71.43%.
“The Jester from Leicester”, as he is affectionately known, is a tactically extremely strong player. His fluctuations in confidence may count against him when it matters, however.
Mark Selby has won 23 ranking titles, which puts him eighth on the all-time list.
Stuart Carrington
Ranked 74th in the world, Grimsby-born Stuart Carrington has lost his last two matches. He crashed out 6-3 to Robbie Williams in the last 64 of the International Championship in China. Subsequently, Carrington lost 6-3 to Oliver Sykes in qualification for the UK Championship.
However, prior to those two defeats, Carrington fared better in qualification for the Scottish Open. He beat Mink Nutcharut and then Aaron Hill, both 4-1. As a result, he earned his chance to compete against one of the best snooker players in the world, but one who is not quite on top of his game at present and could be there for the taking.

Predictions – Selby win 4-2
Mark Selby has dominated this clash in the past. As the fourth-ranked snooker player in the world, he is the clear favourite to win this last 64 encounter. Carrington has proven to be a tricky customer on his day and is capable of winning some frames. However, Selby is the better snooker player. The most logical conclusion from their past clashes is that Selby is likely to win this one 4-2.
Conclusion
The clash between two English snooker players at the Scottish Open promises to be an exciting one. Past history favours Shelby, but Carrington has shown in the past that he is capable of causing an upset against this opponent.
