SA20: Pretoria Capitals' Kyle Verreynne Denies MI Cape Town Bonus-Point Win In Run-Fest

Pretoria Capitals batsman Kyle Verrynne recorded the highest score in SA20 League history to prevent MI Cape Town from gaining a crucial bonus-point after a high scoring affair at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Thursday.

The race for the fourth and final playoff spot will be decided on Saturday, with all three sides in the bottom half of the standings - MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings and the Capitals - all still capable of qualifying.

MI Cape Town moved off the bottom of the standings into the fourth position following their 34-run win over the Capitals, who now find themselves right at the bottom.

But it could have been much worse for the Capitals on a night when a mammoth 462 runs were scored on a batting paradise at SuperSport Park.

MI Cape Town looked set to win the match by a very large margin - which would have boosted their net run-rate considerably - and with a crucial bonus point, which would have given them the edge going into the final round of fixtures.

MI Cape Town scored a massive 248/4, with Ryan Rickelton (90 off 45 balls) and Dewald Brevis (66 off 32 balls) smashing the Capitals' bowlers to all parts of the Centurion venue.

In reply, the Capitals found themselves staring down the barrel at 42/6, with Nuwan Thushara (3/37) and Kagiso Rabada (2/32) bowling some unplayable yorkers upfront.

However, Verreynne (116 off 52 balls) played the innings of his life to steer the Capitals past the 189-mark to prevent MI Cape Town from getting the bonus point.

The Capitals ended on 214/8, which keeps them in the mix ahead of their return fixture against MI Cape Town at Newlands on Saturday.

Mi Cape Town and the fifth-placed Joburg Super Kings, who play the log-leaders Durban Super Giants in the late match on Saturday, have 13 points, while the Capitals are on 10 points.
