Five Successful Premier League Summer Signings So Far

English Premier League clubs broke their own spending record this summer, when they collectively paid out £3.49 billion on new players. That is almost £2.5 billion up on the total paid just five years ago, and a clear indication that England’s top tier is home to most of the wealthiest football clubs in the world. 

When it comes to attracting top talent, only PSG, Barcelona, and Real Madrid can really compete with English sides, with even mid-table teams able to see off rival bids from Serie A and the Bundesliga. Not every big signing guarantees success, but some players adapt to the EPL faster than others. 

Every club hopes that a big-money signing will increase its chances of success and change the predictions on all the best betting sites featured on www.mytopsportsbooks.com. Spurs and Liverpool might still be waiting for their new arrivals to gel, but here are five players who have hit the ground running at their new clubs this season. 

Konstantinos Tzolakis, Hull City 

Not much was expected of Hull City this year. After squeezing into the Premier League thanks to a playoff final victory over Millwall, the Tigers were considered the favorites to go straight back down again at the end of the season. Those predictions are being rethought now, though, with the arrival of Konstantinos Tzolakis a major reason why. 

The Greece number one will have been expected to have been busy as Hull’s new keeper, but some incredible performances helped the Tigers go unbeaten in their first four games, with Tzolakis not conceding a single goal until the trip to Chelsea. Hull has surprised everyone, and will undoubtedly fall away at some point, but the £20 million the club paid Olympiacos for their new custodian looks like being money very well spent. 

Morgan Rogers, Chelsea 

There were some eye-watering amounts paid out for new players this summer, with four over £100 million and one equaling the EPL record fee. Morgan Rogers’ move from Aston Villa to Chelsea came in just under that transfer record, at only £117 million, but his performances already suggest that it was a good investment for the West London club. 

Chelsea, once again, were one of the biggest spenders in the summer transfer window, but Rogers has seamlessly become a pivotal part of the midfield alongside Carlton Palmer. He showed just how good a player he is at Villa last year, and then again for England at the World Cup, and has now scored three goals in the opening four games of the season. Chelsea will probably begin to struggle at some point, but Rogers will continue to be one of his new side’s most important players. 

Mamadou Sangare, Brentford 

Brentford is known for its business acumen in the transfer market, buying low and selling high, and keeping their top-tier status safely intact. This summer saw a change in direction from the club, however, with a record fee of £41 million paid to French side Lens for its all-action Mali international midfielder. 

Sangare was a standout player in Ligue 1 last season and hit the ground running with an excellent performance against Spurs on the opening day. He has continued to play well in the games since, and although there is a question over why he didn’t quite make the grade at RB Salzburg, it does seem as though his style of play is perfectly suited for the EPL. He could be yet another solid signing for Brentford. 

Bruno Guimarães, Arsenal 

When spending a lot of money on a new player, it always makes sense for an EPL team to know that they are buying a product it knows all about. After finally winning the title last season, Mikel Arteta knew that he only needed to refine his squad, rather than overhaul, and the eagerness Guimarães showed to move to North London was too attractive to ignore. 

The former Newcastle captain had made it clear that he wanted to leave the North East, and that Arsenal was his preferred destination. He has actually been used fairly sparingly in the opening few games, but his contribution has been evident all the same. His touch and control has only improved the Gunners' midfield, and a first goal for his new club, against former foes Sunderland, no less, showed that he is completely at home in the capital.
