Andy Robertson has held talks over a return to Celtic, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Scotland captain announced earlier this month that he will be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Left-back Robertson has won everything during his nine-year stay at Anfield and will go down as a club legend.
Two Premier League titles and a Champions League were the highlights in a spell which also included a FA Cup and two League Cups.
Robertson has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who were chasing the Scottish defender during the winter window.
But our sources have been told that discussions have been held between Robertson’s representatives and Celtic over a move back to his boyhood club.
A return to Glasgow would not only represent a full-circle moment in Robertson’s career, but also offer the 32-year-old the chance to take on a leadership role at Celtic as they look to build on their domestic dominance and re-establish themselves as a force in European competition.
Liverpool Legend
It has been widely expected that Robertson would end his career at Celtic over the years.
He was released from the club’s academy aged 15 in 2009 for being too small.
Speaking about his future earlier this season, Robertson said: “I've got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there's options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide.”
But former Liverpool player Charlie Adam, who is now part of Burnley’s academy set up, believes he still has a future in the Premier League if he wants it.
He said: “For me, I still think he's the best left-back in the football club. He's been one of the great Liverpool left-backs over time.”
“I think if you're any other club in the Premier League, maybe apart from two or three, you'd still be looking to sign Andy Robertson as one of the top left-backs in the league.”
