Chelsea are the only team Frank Lampard would consider leaving Coventry City for this summer, with even the club where he won three Premier League titles facing an uphill struggle to prise him away from West Midlands, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

After leading The Sky Blues to promotion, following their goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers, speculation is rife that the former England international could be set for an even more prominent role at an established top-flight side next term.

But numerous sources have told SportsBoom that Lampard is committed to remaining at the CBS Arena, in order to repay the faith shown in him by both owner Doug King and a support base which initially proved sceptical when he replaced long-serving favourite Mark Robins.

Although Stamford Bridge retains a special place in Lampard’s heart, having developed into one of the country’s finest midfielders during his time in west London, the 47-year-old is not considering offers from elsewhere after developing a strong bond with City’s squad and would require some convincing to abandon what he views as a long-term project should The Pensioners come calling.

With Liam Rosenior coming under pressure only three months after being appointed, reports have linked Lampard with a return to Chelsea if they fail to achieve Champions League football.

That was something he delivered during the first of two spells in charge there at the beginning of his coaching career, with the fact he named 10 academy graduates in only his third matchday squad not lost on BlueCo; the consortium which later acquired The Pensioners after sanctions were placed on Roman Abramovich and which favours signing potential rather than proven talent.

Rosenior Under The Cosh

Despite receiving assurances that he retains their backing, Rosenior knows that finishing outside of the top five would have serious consequences for both his position and Chelsea’s financial position after they published record losses recently.

Nevertheless, their reputation as an unstable team, where managers receive precious little patience from either the hierarchy or a fan base clamouring for a return to the days when they were a trophy winning machine without acknowledging the fact they can no longer outspend the rest of the PL or even their biggest rivals in Europe.

Lampard, who has also managed Derby County and Everton, moved to The Pensioners from West Ham in 2001, collecting winners medals in the PL, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield, Europa League and the Champions League across his 648 appearances in their colours.

He was capped 106 times by England too, having also represented the Three Lions at under-21 level.
