Paris St Germain are aiming to do a painful double over Arsenal over the next few weeks, SportsBoom can reveal.
The French giants are looking to defend their Champions League title in Budapest against Mikel Arteta’s Premier League leaders and then ramp up their pursuit of Gabriel Martinelli.
Sources in France have indicated PSG bosses will use the opportunity of having Arsenal board members win the same city to thrash out a deal in the days leading up to the showpiece of Europe’s elite competition.
It is understood Luis Enrique, who provided a tactical masterclass to thwart Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final showdown, is a huge admirer of the Brazilian.
And sources have been told PSG bigwigs have green-lit a move in the region of £50million.
Martinelli’s contract at the Emirates expires next summer, but the deal does include any option for a further year.
It is understood Arteta is open to letting the creative winger leave this summer.
Sources have been told Arteta wants to further boost his attacking options this summer and will need to make room in his squad to do so.
Arsenal are already exploring potential replacements for Martinelli, with Como wonderkid Jesús Rodríguez understood to be firmly on their radar ahead of the summer window. The highly-rated youngster is viewed as one of Europe’s brightest emerging attacking talents and fits the profile Arteta is keen to add as he reshapes his frontline.
Meanwhile, Martinelli would effectively arrive in Paris as a successor to Bradley Barcola, with the French winger continuing to attract strong interest from Manchester City as Pep Guardiola weighs up another major attacking addition.
Long-Serving Martinelli To Wave Goodbye To Gunners?
The 24-year-old, a £9million signing back in 2019, bagged 15 Premier League goals in the 2022/23 campaign.
Last term he netted eight times in the league, but his output has dried up this season despite Arsenal being top of the table.
He has scored just once in the top flight, with six strikes coming in the Champions League as Arteta has led the club to the biggest stage in European football for the first time in two decades.
During his time at Arsenal, Martinelli has scored 62 goals in 275 appearances in all competitions with 41 of those strikes coming in 189 Premier League games.
