The Captain, Carter acknowledged his impressive double-frame century bust midway through the game, saying, "I've been doing that all season. I've had a really consistent season, consistent last year, winning a tournament, two finals, putting in some good stuff, making lots of centuries, so we're pushing in the right direction."
Unfortunately for the two-time champion Williams, a couple of fatal misses proved costly in the end.
Return to the Palace
Returning to the Masters after a four-year absence, Carter expressed his joy at being back in front of the crowd, reminiscing about his previous final appearance. "I just kept reminding myself that it was four years ago I was here, and I was in the final. Come Sunday night, it could be me walking down those stairs again, so don't think you're not worthy for one minute because you've been here and had a run to the final on my last appearance."
Carter's positive mindset played a crucial role in his victory. He shared, "I try to take the positives and think that if I'm not here, well, at least I haven't got to deal with all the pressure. It's an opportunity. It's opportunity. I was laying in bed the other night and I said to myself, it was only when four years ago I got a phone call that Ronnie hadn't entered, and I was dancing around the front room that I was in the Masters. This tournament definitely means a lot to me."
Continuous Play Over Christmas Break Fuels Carter's Form
Ali Carter's commitment to his snooker craft shone through as he opted for continuous play over the Christmas break, a decision that significantly influenced his preparation for the MrQ Masters. Reflecting on his participation in the Macau Masters, Carter acknowledged its role in keeping him competitive over the festive season, stating, “It was a good event, an exhibition event. Obviously, we were playing for prize money, so it kept me playing and engaged over the new year."
Post-Macau Masters, Carter strategically balanced festive celebrations with maintaining focus on his game. Playing on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, he seamlessly transitioned back into his training routine after a brief Christmas break. With a table at home, Carter's dedication remained unwavering.
A Quarter-Final Berth and Potential Foes
Looking ahead to potential future matches, Carter maintained his confidence, stating, "It's a great match to be involved in. Whoever I play, whether it's Judd or Kyron, I can sit at home now, chill out for a few days. I'm trying to get back into my fitness, do a few runs and all that. It's put me in the right frame of mind, and that's all you can ask for."
When asked if he’d be looking for revenge against Trump, after recently losing to the Bristolian in the Wuhan Open final, the Captain, responded: “I'm not interested in revenge or anything else. I just want to go out and put a good performance in and then if I do that, someone's going to have to play very well to beat me.”
With a keen eye on the class of '92, including John Higgins, and Ronnie O'Sullivan, Carter acknowledged the challenge of facing top-tier opponents. "Mark Williams today, he's one of the cleverest players on the tour. We all know that. And yeah, I'll look forward to my next match and take whoever comes."
