At just 21 years old, Carlos Alcaraz has already won four Grand Slam titles. The young Spaniard has etched his name into the tennis history books, but already being touted as the Spanish Prince of Tennis (following in the footsteps of the great Rafael Nadal) it really is anyone’s guess how far he can go.
To win a Grand Slam is itself an incredible feat, but to do so back-to-back at Wimbledon has been reserved for some special talents in the sport. Carlos has defeated some of tennis’ greatest names, including Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. He’s even one of a select few to beat Novak twice in major finals!
A Grand Slam On Every Surface – Four Slams and Counting
Carlos Alcaraz has already won four Grand Slams. His French Open win earlier this year saw him become the youngest man to win a Grand Slam on all three surfaces – the hard court, clay court and grass court.
| Grand Slam | Year |
| U.S Open | 2022 |
| Wimbledon | 2023 |
| French Open | 2024 |
| Wimbledon | 2024 |
Alcaraz’s first Grand Slam came in 2022 when he won the US Open over Casper Ruud. Winning in four sets, the then 19 year old Alcaraz became the youngest men’s tennis player to ever reach World No. 1.
A few months later, he won the Wimbledon Championships in London. Defeating Novak Djokovic in an absolute thriller of a fixture, he once again etched his name into history as only the second person after Andy Murray to beat Novak in a Wimbledon final. He would then go on to repeat this incredible feat in 2024.
His last name isn’t actually “Alcaraz”! He was born Carlos Alcaraz Garfia on the 5th of May 2003.
Interestingly, Alcaraz has never been a runner up at a Grand Slam event. Every single time he has made the final, he has gone on to win! He does still need to win the Australian Open, it is the last elusive jewel in the Spanish Prince’s growing crown.
A Tattoo For Every Win…How Carlos Remembers His Grand Slam Wins
Carlos Alcaraz began a tradition of celebrating his Grand Slam wins with tattoos. After winning the 2022 US Open, he had a tattoo done to commemorate the occasion on his left arm. Soon after that, he claimed his maiden French Open win and had a tattoo of the date alongside the Eiffel Tower inked onto his ankle.
The Spanish ace now also boasts the date of his 2023 Wimbledon win and a strawberry on his ankle. His mother has allegedly expressed a concern about this tradition, but in reply, Carlos has committed to just having the dates of each of the four Grand Slams.
