The French international, 26, is in the final year of his contract at the German giants.
Our sources have been told talks are underway over a contract extension at the Allianz, but wages demands are a potential stumbling block.
SportsBoom sources have been told Upamecano wants a significant wage increase which would see him match the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala.
It is also understood the player wants a release clause in the region of £125million in the deal.
Upamecano is in a strong bargaining position given the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Liverpool have all been linked with making a move if he becomes a free agent.
Our sources understand Manchester United could also enter the fray.
Munich Mainstay
Upamecano has played every game for Vincent Kompany’s Munich so far this season as the defending champions have enjoyed a perfect start to their title campaign after the first four games.
The player moved to Munich in 2021 and has savoured sweet success at the club with three Bundesliga medals on his CV.
He made his France debut in 2020 and been capped 32 times by his country and was part of the World Cup squad which finished runners-up to Lionel Messi’s Argentina in 2022.
Earlier in his career Upamecano spent a season and a half at Red Bull Salzburg before moving to sister club RB Leipzig for a reported fee of €10million.
During his time at Leipzig he was named in the 2019/2020 Champions League Squad of the Season and earned a move to Bayern, who triggered his €42.5million release clause the following summer.
Upamacano has made over 150 appearances for Bayern, scoring five times during his spell at the club.
