Exclusive: Giorgio Scalvini Emerges as Liverpool Alternative Following Marc Guehi Setback
Liverpool is eyeing Atalanta's Giorgio Scalvini as a potential £45m signing after missing out on Marc Guehi. The young Italian center-half is attracting interest from top clubs in Europe, but his talent and potential make him a standout prospect. Despite injuries, Scalvini is seen as one of Serie A's finest emerging talents, likely to command a significant transfer fee.

Giorgio Scalvini, the Atalanta and Italy centre-half, has seen his name included on the list of potential signings Liverpool have compiled as they look to make-up for losing-out on Marc Guehi, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Previously of Crystal Palace, Guehi had been widely expected to move to Anfield this month after holding talks with Arne Slot’s side over the summer before Manchester City stole a march on the reigning Premier League champions and captured him instead.
Although that represented a major blow to The Reds’ hopes of identifying Virgil van Dijk’s long-term successor whilst simultaneously bolstering the options at Slot’s disposal following a frustrating title defence, their recruitment department has now compiled a list of possible alternatives, a list which, according to our sources, contains Scalvini.
Any move for the youngster, however, would be complicated given the interest in him both at home and abroad.
Liverpool’s top-flight rivals Newcastle United are known to be monitoring his situation in Bergamo closely, while Internazionale, Milan and Juventus are also thought to be keen.
PROSPECT
Despite only turning 22 in December, Scalvini has already been capped eight times by his country having already represented them at under-21 and youth level.
Twelve of his 117 career appearances have also come in European competition, where his combination of physicality and technique confirm him as a stand-out prospect.
Although injuries have stalled Scalvini’s progress, he is widely viewed as one of Serie A’s finest emerging talents and could command a fee in excess of £45m when, as seems likely, he eventually joins one of the game’s biggest names.
Scalvini had been set to feature for Italy during their 2024 European Championship campaign before an ACL problem forced him to withdraw from their squad.
He made his senior debut for Atalanta, aged just 17, in 2021 during a fixture against Udinese and has gone on to become an influential member of Raffaele Palladino’s team.
