In tennis, height is often always seen as an aspect which supports a player’s power, reach and service game. we outline the top ten tallest tennis players on the tour – as well as giving special mentions to the shortest!

    10. Marketa Vondrousova 5’ 8’’

Famously, Marketa Vondrousova became the first unseeded women in the Open Era to win Wimbledon! She beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 to be crowned champion. Despite struggling with injuries, she has managed to earn a career ranking of 6th!

Standing at 5’ 8’’, she creeps into our top ten list. Special mentions are; Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina (6’ 0’’), Jelena Ostapenko (5’ 10’’) and Coco Gauff (5’ 9’’).

Interestingly, the shortest female tennis player on the tour is Australia’s Lauren Davis, standing at just 5’ 2’’.

    9. Iga Swiatek 5’ 9’’

Taking the tennis world by storm in 2020, Swiatek won the French Open at Roland-Garros without dropping a single set! She also became the first Polish player (male or female) to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Most recently, Iga paid special tribute to Rafa Nadal (who announced his retirement from professional tennis) calling the Spaniard her absolute ‘inspiration’.

    8. Petra Kvitova 5’ 11’’

Kvitova was previously ranked 2nd in the world, and she is a two-time winner of the Wimbledon Championships. These two wins came in 2011 and 2014 respectively. More recently, Kvitova has won the German Open and the Miami Open in 2023.

However, it was in 2016 where she won a bronze medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This would have no doubt been an immensely proud moment for not only herself, but for her country as well.

    7. Beatriz Haddad Maia 6’ 0’’

Often referred to as the ‘Brazilian Ace’, Haddad Maia has seen much of her success come in the doubles arena. She has earned a career high doubles ranking of 10th and bagged as many as six doubles titles.

Her most recent win, at the time of writing, was the WTA 500 singles title, where she came back from a 26-minute first set loss to beat Kasatkina for the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai.

    6. Karolina Pliskova 6’ 1’’

Karolina is former number 1 WTA player, but she is arguably infamous for being the only player to ever be ranked number one in the world and yet never win a Grand Slam title! The Czech player does, however, boast a competitive serve and, albeit inconsistent, volley game.

    5. Erin Routliffe 6’ 2’’

The New Zealander is currently the tallest women’s player on the WTA Tour. She has a doubles ranking of 11th, and at the time of writing, she has won 20 doubles titles! Interestingly, her singles numbers are not nearly as impressive…

Ranked 675th, her career high is just 582nd.

    4. Matteo Berrettini 6’ 5’’

The final male player on the list, Matteo reached a career high ranking of 6th in 2022. He has, however,  somewhat fallen off since this accomplishment. Yes, injury has had a lot to do with this drop off, but you get the feeling that the Italian will soon rise to prominence again.

Special mentions do go to; Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev (6’ 2’’), Carlos Alcaraz (6’ 1’’) and Alex De Minaur (6’ 0’’).

Although Matteo ranks as the shortest male player on this list, the shortest male tennis player on the tour is Diego Schwartzman from Argentina.

    3. Daniil Medvedev 6’ 6’’

Daniil is always a player who seems to be there and there about. He has spent his entire career competing with the very best, and whilst many often forget him when compiling their ‘greatest of all time’ lists, Daniil is a multiple Grand Slam finalist and US Open winner.

He also claimed the top spot in men’s tennis during 2020!

    2. Christopher Eubanks 6’ 7’’

Eubanks earned his breakthrough in 2023, but it was his quarterfinal run at Wimbledon which captured the hearts and imagination of the tennis world. The 27-year-old, who just constantly fights for every opportunity he gets in tennis, captured his maiden ATP title at the Mallorca Open.

The friendly American currently takes second spot for the tallest player on the tour.

    1. Reilly Opelka 6’ 11’’

Currently the tallest males player on the tour is Reilly Opelka. The winner of just four titles on the ATP Tour, his greatest result at a major has been reaching the fourth round of the 2021 US Open.

Injuries have somewhat stifled his career. Reilly missed the entire 2023 season, and whilst 2024 hasn’t proved to be too kind to the towering giant – it has been brilliant to see him on the tour again.
