The Rules of Snooker
For the novice player or fan, the rules of snooker may seem somewhat confusing and unnecessarily complicated. However, once you are familiar with the important rules of the game, the rest will begin to effortlessly fall into place.
The most important rule is that the cue ball must hit an object ball first. Simple enough, right? This helps keep the game fair and does not allow for an obvious disadvantage amongst players.
The other important rule does not allow a player to hit the same object ball twice, and unlike pool, jump shots are not allowed here.

The World Snooker Championship
Held annually in Sheffield, this is said to be the equivalent of the Super Bowl in snooker. Held at the iconic Crucible Theatre, the intense battle seeks to crown a world champion that will define their career and legacy.
Played over 17 days, 32 players battle through multiple sessions to find a winner.
The UK Championship
The UK Championship is snookers second oldest ranking event, but in many ways, it has begun to attract bigger fields each year. For some, this is even bigger than the World Championships.
Matches are best-of-11 frames until the semi-finals which are best-of-19. The winner walks away with a hefty cash bonus of 250,000 pounds and the title of UK Champion. Ronnie O'Sullivan holds the record for most UK title wins, currently on eight.

Ronnie O’Sullivan
Ronnie O’Sullivan is an English player best known as one of the most talented athletes in the world. Famously overcoming his various battles with drugs and depression, he reached the summit of the sport after winning his first UK Championship in 1993 and his first World Championship in 2001.
Stephen Hendry
The Scottish snooker player won a record seven world titles and dominated the game throughout the 1990s. By 15, he was already the youngest amateur champion in history. He turned professional the following year and when he eventually landed the Grand Prix in 1987. He became the youngest player to win a tournament.
Steve Davis
Known for his front runner tactics during matches, always looking to transfer pressure onto his opponents, Davis became a six-time World Professional Snooker Champion between 1981 and 1989 and he was awarded the MBE for his contributions to snooker from the Crown.
Alex Higgins
Known as a rather exuberant player, Higgins is without question one of the greatest players of all time. He won two world championships (in 1972 and again in 1982) and claimed the UK Championship title in 1983.
Interestingly enough, the Northern Ireland international was crowned a doubles champion in 1984 – partnering up with his best mate in jimmy White!
The Future of Snooker
The most notable indicator for the future of snooker is that of the location for the World Championships. Traditionally it has only ever been held at the Crucible Theatre, but conversations about moving it to different venues each year – and even different countries are gaining traction.
It will no doubt aid in growing the sport globally, but maybe more importantly, it will garner a new crowd and even unearth new stars!
A Brief History of Snooker
Born out of a previous game, snooker has spread and grown throughout pubs and professional halls around the globe. Now, with a professional label attached to the sport, snooker has amassed a following of millions!
Although snooker is often associated with the United Kingdom, its origins are actually in Jabalpur, India. Yes, thanks to Lieutenant Neville Francis Fitzgerald and his boredom with the then popular games of Black Pool, snooker was born.
The first official competition took place in England in 1916, with the first professional edition taking place in 1927.
