Napoli are poised to enter talks with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.
Our sources have been told the Cherries’ centre-back has rejected multiple lucrative contract offers to extend his stay at the club.
Thankfully for Bournemouth, the 28-year-old looks set to stay on the south coast until the end of the season and leave for free in the summer.
It has been a transitional campaign for Andoni Iraola who lost three of last season’s back four.
Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Ilya Zabarnyi left for giants Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain respecively for almost £150million collectively.
Senesi marks the only bit of continuity in defence for Iraola, who has also lost talismanic Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City for £62.5million this winter as well.
The Argentina international wants to take the next step in his career and sees his future away from England.
With his contract up in the summer, Senesi is free to sign a pre-contract with a club abroad this month and is expected to be inundated with offers.
Italy seems a likely destination with Napoli and Juventus just two cubs open to offering him a deal.
Napoli boss Antonio Conte has regularly signed players from the Premier League in recent years and sees Senesi as a long-term prospect at the heart of the Gli Azzurri defence.
Sought-after Star
There are a number of other major clubs monitoring the defender’s situation with talks understood to be ongoing behind the scenes with a number of potential suitors.
SportsBoom sources have also been told Newcastle United have now registered their interest in Senesi and are closely monitoring his contract situation.
Senesi started his career with San Lorenzo in Argentina and made 51 appearances for the club before signing a four-year deal a Feyenoord.
During his time in the Netherlands, he was part of the club’s run to the Conference League final in 2021/22 and scored the Eredivisie Goal of the Year.
His high-level performances at the club earned him a dream Premier League move to Bournemouth in 2022 and he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the Cherries, starring at the heart of the defence.
