They were rebuffed in their initial approaches due to their bids not matching Donetsk’s valuation of the player.
Donetsk’s business model in recent years has revolved around scouting top Brazilian talent and selling them for profit.
Bright Future
Earlier this year, Gomes told Donetsk about his desire to leave the club and return to his native Brazil.
That was under boss Marino Pusic, who left the club at the end of last season and was replaced by Arda Turan and Gomes is happier at the Ukrainian outfit.
Staying in Europe is now a priority for Gomes, who is contracted to the club until 2028, with no issues between him and Donetsk.
Speaking about new boss Turan, Gomes said: “Mister’s style of play is what really appeals to me. We’re growing every day, as a team, as a family. All together, united. And I believe we’ll keep improving.”
Gomes has represented Brazil from U16 to U23 level and featured for them at the Olympic Games.
He shone at Vasco da Gama in his youth and played 44 times for the club before his move to Donetsk.
At the time he was linked with a move to the Premier League, and was on the radar of AC Milan, which may now come to fruition.
