Introducing the Wolf Peak Slot Machine
If you visit land-based casinos a lot, then you have probably seen the Wolf Peak slot machine. It’s an extremely volatile game that is “feast or famine,” and the wins can be enormous if luck comes your way. At the same time, cold stretches can be brutal; Wolf Peak is not the best online slot to play if you’re already playing with a weakened bankroll.
If you follow any of the big slot machine influencers on YouTube, then you have probably seen them play Wolf Peak; due to its high volatility, it is a game that the big jackpot hunters love to chase.
As a fan of Vegas Matt’s slot channel, I’ve seen this game played a lot. They’ve had a few amazing wins during the base game when they’ve filled the screen almost completely with wilds, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen them hit the bonus game. Without a doubt, they will continue chasing until they get it.
Although very few land-based casinos have been adapted in their original form for online casinos, Wolf Peak is an exception. There are two casinos where I regularly play that offer the game. However, in land-based casinos, you are most likely looking at a payback percentage in the 85%-93% range. However, the online version of this game has a theoretical return to player of 96%. That means you have a much better chance of lasting until you hit the bonus if you choose to play Wolf Peak online instead.
Wolf Peak Slot Machine Base Game
Wolf Peak is played on a 5x4 grid of reels. There are 40 paylines in the game and it is played in 80 credit increments. That means that the minimum bet on a penny version of this game is $0.80.
There are thirteen different symbols in the base Wolf Peak slot game. There are nine regular symbols in the game, plus there is a scatter symbol, a bonus symbol, and two types of wild symbols.
The bonus symbol only appears on reels 2, 3, and 4, and you need to get all three of them to trigger the free spins bonus (more about that below.) Scatter symbols can land on any of the reels and pay when you have three or more during a single spin.
The two types of wilds are purple and gold ones. Purple ones are valid for the current spin only. Gold ones have a “Delayed Expanding Wilds” feature; they expand during each subsequent spin until they have filled the reel completely, after which time they disappear. Gold wilds may also have a 2x or 3x multiplier.
There’s another twist with the Delayed Expanding Wilds feature. It is possible to land another one of these on a reel that already has the feature active. If so, your wilds will hang around a little longer, because they won’t disappear until that new wild has run its course too.
Online Casinos with the Wolf Peak Slot Machine
King Show Games, the designers of the Wolf Peak slot machine, are very selective when it comes to choosing online casinos to showcase their games. Out of all the great online casinos that we’ve reviewed at Sportsboom, I’ve only encountered two that carry this great game. They are:
- High 5 Casino - $5 free sweeps coins when you sign up, plus 150% first purchase deposit bonus available
- Legendz Casino - $3 of free sweeps coins when you register, plus 50% first time depositor bonus offer
Free Games Bonus Feature
If you manage to land those three “Bonus” symbols on reels 2, 3, and 4, then you’ve hit the gold mine. It’s tremendously difficult to get this bonus on Wolf Peak, but you are likely to be rewarded handsomely.
Normally, I play a slot online to get screenshots for my slot reviews, but Wolf Peak had me intimidated. I’ve watched enough Vegas Matt sessions on Wolf Peak to know how illusive this slot bonus is. So with that in mind, I decided to pass on potentially eating up my whole evening in an attempt to hit it. However, you can find some videos of the Wolf Peak slot machine's free spins bonus on YouTube.
The free games feature on Wolf Peak is initiated with a whopping twenty free games. Additionally, they get you off to a nice head start by putting sets of the Delayed Expanding Wilds on reels 1, 3 and 5. During each spin, these wilds expand to fill an additional space. On the spin after they fill all four spaces on a reel, they unlock from their positions and disappear.
Note that you can get a second Delayed Expanding Wilds feature on a reel, even if one is already present. Also, don’t forget that some of these expanding gold wilds may have 2x or 3x multipliers (if they are on reel 2, 3 or 4.) Because you can have three of these multiplier wilds in a payline combination, you can see wins as high as 27x the normal payline payout.
Based on the videos of the Wolf Peak slot machine’s free game bonus that I have seen online, it seems like the Delayed Expanding Wilds appear much more frequently during the free games bonus feature.
Additionally, the bonus can be retriggered, delivering an additional 20 free games each time you retrigger the free games bonus on Wolf Peak. However, at least on the online version, there is a cap of 240 free games in a bonus.
Wolf Peak Progressive Jackpots
During the base game and free spins bonus features, progressive jackpots are available. Select regular symbols on the reels also have the word “Jackpot” emblazoned on them. If you can get three or more of them on adjacent reels during a spin, you will win one of the five progressives.
Don’t get faked out by three or more of these scattered; they must be on reels that are adjacent.
If you do manage to get three or more adjacent symbols labeled “Jackpot” on a single spin of the Wolf Peak slot machine, here’s what you will win:
- 3 Jackpot Symbols - Mini Jackpot
- 4 Jackpot Symbols - Minor Jackpot
- 5 Jackpot Symbols - Major Jackpot
- 6 Jackpot Symbols - Grand Jackpot
- 7 Jackpot Symbols - Mighty Jackpot
Conclusion
If you have curiosity about the Wolf Peak slot or have previously played the game in a land-based casino, it’s a no-brainer to give it a go online. You are looking at a much higher return to player percentage (96% vs. crappy brick and mortar casino payouts), plus you can stack that higher RTP with the great signup bonuses offered by casinos such as Legendz and High 5 Casino.
