As Brentford prepare to welcome Newcastle United to the Brentford Community Stadium, both teams are seeking a change in fortunes after tasting defeats last weekend. The Bees have shown flashes of brilliance on home soil, amassing 10 points from five games against top-tier opposition such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, having also struggled away from home.

The forward line of Igor Thiago, Dango Ouattara, and Kevin Schade has played pivotal roles in Brentford’s attacking threat, combining clinical finishing with explosive speed and trickery on the flanks.

On the other hand, Newcastle are battling inconsistent form in the Premier League, which has been particularly poor on the road. With the added fatigue of their midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Athletic Bilbao, the Magpies will face an uphill task as manager Eddie Howe will be looking for his squad to stabilize results quickly, relying on the creative spark of Bruno Guimaraes.

BRENTFORD: CURRENT FORM – LWWWL

Brentford will be seeking a swift return to winning ways after last weekend’s (2-0) defeat to Crystal Palace. Their loss at Selhurst Park highlighted a definite area for concern as manager Keith Andrews will be aiming to arrest his team’s poor form on their travels following their fourth loss in five away matches.

However, on home soil, the Bees have been swarming opponents with intensity and stinging their visitors with sharp performances. Impressively tallying 10 points from five matches against the likes of Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, while suffering a narrow loss to Manchester City.

Brentford left the City Ground empty-handed on the opening weekend, losing (3-1) to Nottingham Forest with striker Igor Thiago scoring a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

The Bees showed character during a hard-fought (1-0) victory over Aston Villa in their first home game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, with club-record signing Dango Ouattara announcing himself to the fans at the Brentford Community Stadium in style.

Brentford’s success in the EFL Cup can’t be easily overlooked with the Bees set to take on Manchester City in the quarter-finals after securing wins over Bournemouth (2-0), Aston Villa (4-2 on penalties), and giant-killers Grimsby Town (0-5).

Manager Keith Andrews will be most disappointed by their (2-1) loss to newly-promoted Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Although Brentford gave a better account of themselves against Chelsea after stealing a share of the spoils (2-2), in extra time, thanks to the inspired substitution of Fabio Carvalho.

However, the Bees’ woes continued away from home, succumbing to a (3-1) defeat at Craven Cottage against Fulham. Igor Thiago earned the Man of the Match award during Brentford’s magnificent (3-1) victory over Manchester United, with the Brazilian striker netting a brace.

An early Erling Haaland goal sunk Brentford’s hopes when Manchester City came to town, inflicting their only loss (0-1) on home soil this campaign. Brentford bounced back with their only victory on enemy territory after goals by Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen stifled West Ham United (0-2) at the London Stadium.

The Bees’ most impressive showing this season was grinding out a thrilling (3-2) win over defending champions Liverpool, with Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade, and Igor Thiago’s goals deciding the high-octane end-to-end encounter.

Brentford were humbled in their last clash against Crystal Palace (2-0), unable to penetrate the Eagles’ well-drilled backline despite a promising late onslaught. That bitter defeat served as a timely reminder to Keith Andrews’ men that consistency is key to remaining in the top half of the Premier League standings.

Key Players To Watch

  • Igor Thiago: The Brazilian striker has scored six Premier League goals, directly contributing three match-winning performances against Manchester United, West Ham United, and Liverpool with his left foot, right foot, and showing his composure from the penalty spot. His clinical finishing and relentless work rate have made him a fan favorite.
  • Kevin Schade: The exciting young winger scored a wonderful goal in his club’s last home game against Liverpool. Taking on defenders at top speed with his incredible close control and dazzling dribbling skills, he eliminates quality defenders with each manoeuvre before unleashing a sweetly taken strike. His pace, flair, and intelligent movement are a joy to watch.
  • Dango Ouattara: The explosive 23-year-old winger has chipped in with crucial goals, inspiring wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool. Yet his key function remains stretching and exposing left-backs once he’s swiftly set free by Brentford’s midfield trio. Ouattara wins corners and, more importantly, throw-ins that have recently been added to Brentford’s attacking arsenal courtesy of Michael Kayode’s extraordinary ability.

BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS

Promising young central defender Benjamin Arthur    is doubtful after being substituted against Grimsby Town after suffering an injury just below his knee. Meanwhile, veteran right-back Aaron Hickey is expected to be up for selection after missing last week’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Antoni Milambo sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on international duty with the Netherlands Under-21s and will miss the rest of the campaign, with Josh Dasilva steadily continuing his recovery following a ruptured ACL in his knee.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: CURRENT FORM – LWWWL

Following their high-profile midweek UEFA Champions League clash with Athletic Bilbao, Newcastle United switch their attention back to Premier League commitments, where the Magpies desperately require an upturn in form after losing two of their last three league games.

The most worrying sign for manager Eddie Howe will be his side’s horrible away form, being one of four clubs that are yet to claim a victory on their travels (along with the bottom three). Newcastle struggled to gain momentum at the beginning of the season, going winless from their opening three matches.

After their goalless draw with Aston Villa, the Magpies were edged out (2-3) in a five-goal thriller against Liverpool at St. James’ Park. An away trip to Elland Road resulted in another goalless stalemate with newly-promoted Leeds United.

New-signing Nick Woltemade scored the deciding goal against Wolves (1-0) as Newcastle claimed their much-awaited first league victory. A third consecutive away game was met by yet another goalless draw when Newcastle made the trip to Bournemouth.

Woltemade handed Newcastle the lead against title-challenging Arsenal, before the Gunners came from behind to snatch (1-2) victory, very similar to the Magpies’ game against Liverpool, capitulating during the final stages of the match.

Newcastle returned to winning ways with a comfortable (2-0) win over Nottingham Forest, with Bruno Guimaraes and Woltemade finding the back of the net. However, their woes continued on the road as Brighton (2-1) claimed maximum points at the Amex Stadium, despite Woltemade scoring in his third successive league match.

Bruno Guimaraes scored the dramatic 90th-minute winning goal against Fulham (2-1), sending fans at St. James’ Park into a frenzy. At last, there was a sense of optimism for Eddie Howe and his men, clinching the victory in the dying moments after surrendering their advantage against Liverpool and Arsenal.

Newcastle were surprised by a new-look West Ham United (3-1), recently rejuvenated under the guidance of manager Nuno Espirito Santo, away at the London Stadium. That loss left Newcastle struggling for consistency, exposing vulnerabilities defensively and in attack.
Howe faces a tough task, attempting to stabilize his squad while juggling European and league duties. The Magpies must find rhythm quickly if they are to challenge for a top-five position in the Premier League.

Key Players To Watch

  • Bruno Guimaraes: The Brazilian midfielder’s match-winning goals against Nottingham Forest and Fulham proved his worth. His vision and composure in the final third are vital for Newcastle, often turning the tide in tough games. The 27-year-old’s ability to time late runs, dictate tempo from the heart of midfield, and deliver decisive goals make him a standout player in the Premier League.
  • Anthony Gordon: The dynamic winger began the season playing centre forward, now expected to return to his usual role with Woltemade occupying the number nine position. Gordon will utilize his pace and dribbling to stretch defences, create chances, and deliver dangerous crosses into Woltemade’s 198cm tall frame. His movement on the flank will also draw defenders away, opening space for midfield runners like Bruno Guimaraes.
  • Nick Woltemade: The focal point of attack has shown signs of being a quality striker, but he needs to work on his finishing and decision-making under pressure in order to quickly adapt to the Premier League. Fine-tuning his movement and finishing can help Woltemade develop into a consistent, versatile striker, capable of leading the line and outscoring Alexander Isak’s previous Premier League tally (23 goals).

NEWCASTLE UNITED TEAM NEWS

Right-back Tino Livramento endured an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury earlier this season, while Yoane Wissa suffered another setback from a Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) injury sustained while on international duty with DR Congo.

Both players are unavailable, with Kieran Trippier expected to make his return after sitting out last weekend’s match due to illness. Meanwhile, defender Harrison Ashby (thigh injury) has begun training with the first team in hopes of making a speedy comeback.

Predicted Line-Up

  2. Newcastle United: 4-3-3

PREDICTION: BRENTFORD TO WIN

Brentford’s incredible home form this season, picking up 10 points from five matches against top-tier opposition, gives the Bees confidence coming into this clash. Their ability to stretch defences with pacey wingers like Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade, combined with Igor Thiago’s clinical finishing, makes them dangerous at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are likely to be fatigued following their midweek UEFA Champions League encounter with Athletic Bilbao. Their inconsistency on their travels suggests they might struggle to match Brentford’s intensity. We expect Brentford to edge out a narrow, hard-fought victory on home soil.
