Stevenage and Bradford City are both exploring a deal to sign former Liverpool youngster Max Woltman on a free transfer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Ex-Reds forward Woltman left Anfield for Oxford United in August 2023, but the 19-year-old played just three cups game for the club.
And it’s little surprise the talented teenager is desperate to get games having being starved of first-team opportunities at the Kassam Stadium.
Woltman was at Liverpool for 12 years and was a product of their successful academy system.
He enjoyed 13 games on loan at Doncaster Rovers during the 2022-23 season, before the U’s signed him on a two-year deal at the end of that season.
But Woltman, who joined Liverpool when was just five years old, never got a chance to show his quality.
He made two senior appearances for the Reds, the most notable as a substitute in a Champions League win for the club against AC Milan at the San Siro stadium way back back in December 2021.
And he also played in a FA Cup third-round victory over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield the following season when Jurgen Klopp was boss.
NEW CHALLENGE
Now the Boro and Bantams are hoping to offer Woltman a lifeline as he looks get back to playing regular football.
“It’s a hard pathway at Liverpool with so many great players, so sometimes you do have to drift off and go your own way,” said Woltman, after his arrival at Oxford.
“I’m really looking forward to taking the next step in my career."
“It was emotional saying goodbye to Liverpool, but it’s my career and I’ve got to be pushing on."
“My debut was against Milan in the Champions League, which was really emotional."
“There’s pressure on my but I thrive on the excitement, I just love playing football.”
