Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

If there was any concern over Real Madrid after Xabi Alonso’s departure, the last few weeks have answered all the noise, and they are not just in form; they have shown every dimension of an elite European side. As they enter this first-leg Champions League tie against Bayern, the last five games have reassured everyone that they are still one of the most lethal teams in world football. 

Against Man City, they lit up the Bernabeu with a dominant performance, showing class, collective strength, and clinical attacking threat. Knowing how City would play and control possession, Madrid stayed compact and absorbed pressure, but their elite quality in advanced areas ensured they made Pep Guardiola’s return to the capital one to forget.

Returning to La Liga duties, Los Blancos followed up their impressive victory against Man City with another eye-catching victory over Elche. They scored from a set-piece, midfield brilliance, aerial dominance, and even a long-range stunner. Next was the Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid, and this type of fixture rarely disappoints, as both teams lived up to the hype. It produced a five-goal thriller, which showed Madrid’s maturity and control in a well-deserved victory. Last time out, Arbeloa’s side faced a tricky Mallorca outfit and used it as preparation to refine their approach ahead of their massive tie with Bayern Munich. 

Bayern Munich is a household name in world football and has rediscovered their dominance and ruthlessness under Vincent Kompany. Unlike previous Bayern sides that relied heavily on intensity, the Bavarians can now blow teams away with their explosive attacking transitions, suffocate opponents with a well-organized pressing structure, and slowly dismantle teams with elite possession-based football.

In the first leg against Atalanta away in Bergamo, Bayern just proved how aggressive and ferocious they can be in a runaway victory. Despite Atalanta’s efforts, Kompany’s side were relentless without the ball and ruthless with it, demonstrating their pedigree at the highest level. Back in the Bundesliga, Bayern lacked its usual cutting edge and settled for a point after a fiercely contested draw with Leverkusen.  

Back at the Allianz Arena, Bayern welcomed Atalanta for the return leg, and even though the damage was done back in Bergamo, the Germans came away with a comfortable victory, defeating the Italians 10-2 on aggregate to book their place in the next round. Staying in Bavaria, Union Berlin provided the next challenge and delivered a complete performance by largely outclassing their opponents. 

Recently, Bayern travelled to take on a fearless Freiburg, forcing them to adapt and adjust, as their hosts offered more resistance than Union. With momentum on the line, Kompany’s message was clear. Bayern slowly went to work and put in a performance that not only maintained their elite level but set them up mentally for another tough away trip in the Spanish capital.
