Argentine forward, Alexis Cuello is reportedly primed for a big move this summer having seen a couple of European clubs express their interests for his signature, SportsBoom can reveal.
Cuello, 25, who plays for San Lorenzo in the Argentine top flight starred for the club last season as they fell short of reaching the Torneo Apertura final after a narrow loss to eventual winners Platense in the semifinals.
However, that has not stopped the plethora of admirers who are beginning to queue for the striker, with agent Lee Marsh who has full mandate of the player confirming these interests.
Highly-rated in Argentine football, Cuello is said be open to a move abroad despite only joining the Azulgrana in January.
CUELLO BE BOUND FOR THE ENGLAND
SportsBoom understands newly promoted Premier League side Burnley have made contacts with the player's camp while Championship-bound Birmingham City who won League One last season have also inquired about the player, with Marsh looking to get the best deal possible.
That said, a couple of other unnamed clubs in Spain and Italy are also interested but the 25-year-old favours a move to either of the EFL teams, as he wants to play in the United Kingdom.
"Most of these kind of deals, when you see them get done, it doesn't come easy", Marsh said exclusively about the impending deal.
"It is no longer as it used to be, like six years, seven years, ten years ago. But the [Cuello] deal, we've been speaking with these sides. Not just them, I have had teams from Spain, Italy call to talk but he prefers to play in the UK."
"The wages are not even crazy, but we're looking to get the best value, and of course if there's more to it."
A fee in the region of $4 million have been mooted, and Marsh who obviously have a good relationship with the player's camp and San Lorenzo is confident of getting a deal over the line soon.
That said, an official bid from the interested parties is being awaited, but San Lorenzo has full bargaining power as the player has over two years running on his current deal at the club.
Cuello is contracted to San Lorenzo till December 2027.
ROUGH AROUND THE EDGES
Growing up in Avellaneda, Cuello has had to bide his time strutting his stuff with clubs in and around the top of Argentine football ladder.
Fast, direct and with a poacher's eye for goals, the pace of the EFL could just be what he needs to finally burst onto the scene but it is still in the melting pot how fast he'd be able to adapt in a new country, having not played outside of his native Argentina in his career.
Cuello started out with the cadet sides of Racing Club, taking in a number of loan stints before signing on a free with Almagro in the winter of 2023.
He would then transfer on a temporary basis to San Lorenzo before seeing his spell made permanent for a fee of €1 million.
Modelling his game around national hero Lionel Messi just like every football-crazy lad in Buenos Aires, there can be glimpses of promise in his game, something he showed with his solo effort in the 2-1 win over Tigre in the later stages of the Apertura playoffs.
