Brentford Explore Shock Move for Free Agent Jadon Sancho

Brentford are exploring a surprise move to sign free agent Jadon Sancho as the ambitious Bees look to pull off one of the biggest bargains of the summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The West London club are understood to have made initial enquiries into the former Manchester United winger's availability and are assessing whether a deal can be struck for the 23-capped England international, who remains without a club after leaving Old Trafford.

Sancho, 26, has yet to find a new permanent home after his Manchester United career came to an end, with the winger still searching for a permanent move following his dramatic fall from favour at the Premier League giants. 

He spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the Midlands club opted against offering him a permanent contract, leaving him one of the highest-profile free agents on the market.

Brentford are also preparing for the departure of England international Jordan Henderson, with the experienced midfielder expected to move on this summer, with a move to London neighbours Chelsea heavily linked.

The Bees are keen to add leadership and proven quality to their squad, with Sancho viewed as a player capable of bringing both if a deal can be agreed, and had previously been linked with a move for the winger before his loan move to Villa Park last term. 

IMPLICATIONS

A short-term contract is understood to be under discussion as Brentford assess the financial implications of a move. 

However, whether the Bees can meet the winger's high wage demands remains the biggest hurdle to completing any agreement, with the club unwilling to tear up their carefully managed salary structure.

The ambitious West London club are determined to build on last season's impressive ninth-place finish and believe a push for European qualification is a realistic target this campaign. 

Brentford see the addition of proven quality and experience as vital to making that next step, with Sancho viewed as a player capable of helping drive the Bees into the fight for a place in Europe.

Sancho earned his blockbuster move to Manchester United after lighting up the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, emerging as one of Europe's brightest young stars. 

Sancho has also received an offer from Qatari club Al-Rayyan, with the former Manchester United winger now weighing up his options as he searches for his next permanent destination.

PECKING ORDER

He enjoyed two promising seasons at Old Trafford before slipping down the pecking order and eventually being shipped out on loan.

Since falling out of favour at United, Sancho has spent time on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and, most recently, Aston Villa, but has yet to secure a permanent move.

Despite not completing a full season at either club, Sancho still collected European silverware, winning the UEFA Conference League with Chelsea before helping Aston Villa lift the UEFA Europa League last season, underlining the pedigree Brentford hope he can bring to West London.

The 26-year-old has been capped 23 times by England and, despite his recent struggles, Brentford believe he still has the quality to make a major impact in the Premier League.
