Representatives from a number of English Football League clubs are set to be in attendance when the 2025 Unity Cup competition kicks off this week, it has been revealed.
The four-nation competition, billed for the Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, will start on May 27th with Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago taking to the pitch, while Nigeria and Ghana trade tackles a day later.
SportsBoom can confirm that no fewer than six Premier League clubs will have their scouts run the rule over the players in action, prominent among them being Chelsea, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Everton and Fulham.
GETAFE'S UCHE COURTING ATTENTION
While fans could be in the dark as to which player(s) might be of interest for these clubs, Getafe and Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche is likely to be the cynosure of eyes after a decent campaign with the Madrid-based side.
The youngster who had a breakout campaign with the La Liga side delivered a season-defining performance for Geta Azulones last weekend, scoring the match winner in their dramatic victory over Mallorca to secure the club’s survival in the top flight for another season.
Chelsea have previously been credited with a strong interest in the youngster in the summer of 2024 while Villa and Bournemouth have also been to the Estadio Coliseum to observe him at close quarters last year.
Most likely, they are not alone now judging by the growing influence and talent of the player which is becoming evident with each game he plays, with Everton and Bournemouth looking to add some firepower upfront for their sides.
However, it is unknown yet if Getafe are ready to cash in on the youngster this summer, or the transfer fee they could demand for the highly-rated midfielder who is valued for about €8 million.
GLOWING REVIEWS ON THE WANTED PLAYER
"Yes, there are strong interests in Chris, so maybe the Unity Cup games is a good chance for these clubs to see what he's about again," a source told SportsBoom.com.
On the back of his scintillating campaign in the Spanish top-tier, Uche earned himself a maiden call-up to the Nigeria national team, and could likely debut against the Black Stars.
"He's settled in well in Getafe, and everyone's shown him how much he's loved. And he has been repaying that faith."
"It is fine if other clubs want to look at him and like his play, but he's highly-rated, that's one thing you can be rest assured of."
Uche signed for Getafe from AD Ceuta in June 2024 for around €500,000 and have gone on to become an integral part of the side.
