After ending Club Brugge’s ten-year wait for the Croky Cup, Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika now finds himself at the centre of swirling transfer speculation.

His commanding display in Belgium cup final, and the possibility of a league-and-cup double, has not only cemented his status as a rising star but has also revived whispers of a January move to the English Premier League.

Premier League calling?

January reports linked Onyedika to several top-flight English clubs, and his recent form offers clear justification.

In the Croky Cup final, he dictated play from the first whistle; breaking up counter-attacks, spraying incisive passes, and even earning a standing ovation when substituted in the 74th minute. His composure under pressure highlights why scouts have been watching closely.

“I’ve heard the speculation; some Premier League sides have been monitoring me,” Onyedika told SportsBoom.com.

“But my focus remains on Club Brugge. My agent handles any talks, and right now, I want to finish what we started here.”

Liverpool and Tottenham are reportedly interested in the Nigerian international, according to sources close to SportsBoom.

While Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Porto and AC Milan apparently all made enquiries in January, and may be looking to re-visit.

From Midtjylland to Brugge: A steep rise

Signed from FC Midtjylland, Onyedika’s transition to Belgian football was swift. Video analysis sessions, tailored fitness regimens, and immersion in a winning culture accelerated his growth.

“I trust my decisions on the ball,” he explained. “Here, I’ve learned to control the tempo and lead from midfield.”

That leadership now extends beyond the pitch, as younger players look to him both for performance and professionalism; qualities coveted by top European leagues.

Chasing the domestic double

Club Brugge’s cup triumph only intensifies the pursuit of the Belgian Pro League crown. Onyedika admits the squad’s ambition has grown in tandem with their recent success.

“We’re hungry for that double,” he said. “Lifting both trophies would mark a historic season; for the club, the fans, and for us as players.”

Such ambition adds to his allure, suggesting a player ready for the pressure cooker of England’s top tier. Premier League clubs prize midfielders who can both shield the defence and initiate attacks; Onyedika’s cup final performance ticked both boxes.

Transfer Talks: Timing Is everything

While January speculation hinted at immediate moves, Onyedika and Brugge appear focused on the season’s climax.

A summer transfer could be more realistic, allowing him to help secure the league title before making a leap. His agent has reportedly held discreet discussions, but no formal offers have surfaced.

“Only God knows best,” Onyedika noted. “If the right opportunity comes; one that respects both my career and the club’s needs, I’d consider it. But my heart is here until we finish this campaign.”

As Brugge battles for the league trophy, Onyedika’s performances will be under intense scrutiny. Each composed tackle, each pinpoint pass, and each moment of leadership not only propels his club forward but also builds his case as one of Africa’s premier midfield talents ready for the global stage.

With the cup in hand and the league within reach, Onyedika stands poised; his transfer rumours fuelled by form, his future bright, and the Premier League closer than ever before.
