While TPC Twin Cities was deemed the 16th hardest course on the PGA Tour last term, the average winning score over the past three years has been -19.

An $8.4 million prize purse has been stumped up, but for those who are on the bubble or outside the top 70, a strong week for players could propel them up the FedEx Cup standings and punch a ticket to the play-offs.

Our golf tournament preview has given you the full lowdown on what to expect at the 3M Open, and we have shared some golf betting odds for you to sink your teeth into.

Key Player Updates

The 3M Open usually assembles a competitive field, and some golf bookmakers will carry cursory stats on how a player’s game is holding up.

However, we prefer to be more precise with the golf data we lock down. We have highlighted some key performance metrics of the main players, underpinning their strengths and areas for improvement.

Contender News

Golf stats for betting only present a small proportion of the story. Having drilled down the performance metrics, we need to flesh out some more details on the main contenders ahead of the 3M Open.

This is worth giving a read if you are deliberating over picks and wish to nail your golf betting strategies.

Jhonattan Vegas

Despite his patchy form, Jhonattan Vegas currently finds himself just outside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings, so he’s under no immediate threat to perform well here.

Last year, Vegas was in blistering form at the 3M Open, and the highlight of his tournament was the -8 he carded in round three, pipping nearest challenger Max Greyserman to the title by one stroke.

Although his putting stats are nothing to shout home about, Vegas knows what is required to get the job done, and he could be in the picture come the weekend.

Chris Gotterup

Unless you are an ardent golfing enthusiast, you may not have heard of Chris Gotterup. We have been tracking the 25-year-old American with great interest, and a key turning point was his win at the Genesis Scottish Open earlier this month.

Gotterup put himself on the golfing map with an assured performance, and although he finished T59 on his previous visit to the 3M Open, he is a completely different player now.

His approach to play has been brilliant, and he ranks well in the SG: Off the Tee, so we aren’t putting it past him to have a solid week here.

Tony Finau

Tony Finau seems to go about his business quietly, but he has churned out some impressive displays, most notably at the PGA Championship, where he finished T19.

Having lifted the 3M Open title back in 2022, Finau feels comfortable here, but it will be imperative for him to get off to a quick start. He has been hampered by scores of 73 and 76 in his opening rounds of his past two events, which is a cause for concern.

However, Finau, when fully firing, comes to the party, and he could be one to watch out for this week.

Suggested Bets

Golf betting sportsbooks worth their salt will be well endowed with specials for the 3M Open, and we’ve picked out a few lines that could be worth exploring.

  1. Tony Finau to be the leader after round 1: Although his recent performances suggest he has been slow coming out of the blocks, the 3M Open seems to be tailor-made to Tony Finau’s game. We think he could get off to a lightning-quick start, and he could surge into the lead after Round 1 (5/2 with Sportsbet.io).

  2. Chris Gotterup to notch up a top-10 finish: Previously an unknown proposition, Chris Gotterup raised his profile with a sensational display at the Genesis Scottish Open. The American is no shrinking violet, and he could well be in the upper echelons of the leaderboard come the weekend. A top-10 finish is a feasible prospect (5/6 with 1xBet).

  3. Wire-to-Wire Winner (No): Although Lee Hodges bucked the trend by being a wire-to-wire winner in 2023, it has generally been a rare occurrence at the 3M Open. Instead, we think the tournament lead could switch hands over the four rounds, and in terms of golf betting tips, avoiding the Wire-to-Wire line could be worthwhile (3/5 with Stake).

Tournament Prediction

The 3M Open offers some suitable nuances compared to general run-of-the-mill PGA Tour events, and there is always plenty of hype about it. While Jhonattan Vegas arrives at this tournament as the defending champion, his form has deserted him lately, and his driving stats are a cause for concern.

Similarly, Tony Finau, another former champion, hasn’t been driving the ball well, and while it isn’t a primary indicator of success, there is an emphasis placed on accuracy from the tee. Instead, Chris Gotterup, who has been blazing a trail over the past few weeks, looks assured with his approach play and he could light things up again. In terms of golf tournament predictions, we’re backing Gotterup to enter the winner’s circle.

If you fancy him or another player, take a gander at the best signup sports betting offers to maximize your chances of amassing some great returns.
