Staged at the magical Valderrama, which is often described as the ‘Augusta of Europe’, this tournament always stirs up plenty of excitement. While some players will be preparing for the British Open and acclimatising to links golf at the Renaissance Club in Scotland, the LIV stars will be sunning it up in Spain. A brute force, Bryson DeChambeau’s previous win came in Korea, and he is always a threat. He has been a model of consistency, as illustrated by the fact he hasn’t finished lower than 10th in any of his past six LIV appearances.
The American has been reliable with the driver, but Valderrama is more of a thinker’s course rather than trying to leather the tee. DeChambeau, who is often referred to as the ‘scientist’, will need to be more methodical and plod a sensible path if he’s going to make any gains.
Last year, DeChambeau came home in ninth in Andalucia, but two ordinary rounds over the weekend cost him dear. A fast start is imperative if DeChambeau is going to have any chance of coming out on top.
Jon Rahm
It’s fair to assert that Valderrama hasn’t been kind to Jon Rahm, who has suffered a series of agonising near-misses in the past. 12 months ago, the Spaniard finished 10th in Andalucia, and while he hasn’t tasted success this term, he’s not far off.
His approach play has been scintillating at times, and his irons will need to be fully functioning to make serious headway. When he’s dialled in, Rahm is a joy to watch, and he could be there or thereabouts.
Tyrrell Hatton
Known for the intensity on the course, the temperamental Englishman has been clocking up some solid results, churning out four top-15 finishes in a row.
Being able to scramble well could hold the key to success, as is being strong with the flatstick. Hatton, let’s not forget, came third in Andalucia last year, just missing out on a play-off. If he wants to be in the mix this weekend, he needs to be a bit more canny around the greens and hold a few more putts.

Golf tournament predictions can often be a double-edged sword, but the third edition of the Andalucia Individual could make for compelling viewing. Bryson DeChambeau usually attracts plenty of attention, and his game has been holding up; however, Valderrama represents a stiff test.
The same could be said of Tyrrell Hatton, however, you wonder how he will react if he hits an errant tee shot or things start to go against him. Although success has eluded Jon Rahm in the past at Valderrama, the king of birdies and master of approach play could find some joy this time around, and he’s our pick to enter the winner’s circle.
