Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 Preview: Odds, Tips & Predictions
Date: 22-25 May 2025 Venue: Colonial Country Club, Forth Worth, Texas Defending champion: Davis Riley After a topsy-turvy PGA Championship, the PGA Tour scurries off to Texas this week for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Scottie Scheffler ended up surging to a five-stroke victory in the second Major of the season to clinch his 15th PGA Tour title, and he now has three Majors to his name. However, it was far from easy. The celebrations will have continued long into the night. But the main focus this week will be on the Charles Schwab Challenge, which will be on the radar of golf betting sportsbooks who will be busy compiling a range of odds for the tournament.

Naturally, there will be a strong American contingent for the tournament that was first staged in 1946. 500 FedEx Cup points are in the offing as well as a total prize purse of $9.5 million.
Playing as a par-70 at 7,289 yards, Colonial is one of the shorter courses on the PGA circuit, but it is a tight, tree-lined track with small bentgrass greens ranking 12 on the Stimpmeter. Therefore, the players will need to be careful with their putts.

Contender News
Golf bookmakers always like to take the opportunity to talk up the favourites ahead of any PGA Tour tournament, but as we know, the PGA Tour can be unpredictable.
Nevertheless, we have used the golf stats for betting highlighted in our original table to cast some thoughts about the three contenders that could be vying for the Charles Schwab Challenge title this weekend.
Scheffler has clinched back-to-back wins on the PGA Tour, and he’s starting to motor. He’s usually the first pick for any given tournament, and he could claim a hat-trick of successive wins this weekend.
Scottie Scheffler
An obvious starting point, Scottie Scheffler is carrying very short odds with many of the best betting sites for golf, and justifiably so.
His PGA Championship triumph may have sounded like a procession, but Scheffler produced in clutch moments. Even though things nearly went awry in the final round, where he shot 71, he just proved to be too good in the end.
The American’s performance metrics make for ominous reading for his rivals, and he delivers week in, week out.
Jordan Spieth
Arguably golf’s forgotten man, it seems Jordan Spieth has been overvalued by many of the finest golf betting sites. Apart from an average set of performance stats, Spieth put himself back with a missed cut at the PGA Championship.
Before that, there were a few top-20 finishes, suggesting a possible resurgence. Last year, Spieth was a distant T37 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, especially after he looked to have laid a marker with a three-under-par score in the first round.
In terms of golf betting tips, Spieth to win this week seems unlikely, but maybe he could push himself up the leaderboard.
Hideki Matsuyama
At the start of 2025, Hideki Matsuyama set out his stall with a great win in Hawaii, but since March, he has been fairly quiet.
There were a couple of top-25 finishes at the Masters and the Truist Championship, but other than that, there have been a few missed cuts, which doesn’t augur well for the Japanese golfing icon.
It would be great to see Matsuyama get things back on track, however, a top-20 finish seems more likely.
Suggested Bets
Apart from the usual raft of golf betting odds normally available, we have plucked out a few markets that are worth considering ahead of the Charles Schwab Challenge, so let’s see what we discovered.
Scottie Scheffler to win the Charles Schwab Challenge: Scottie Scheffler is in the groove, and winning a third Major title will do that. The American never seems flustered, and while it’s too early still as to whether he will emulate his achievements of 2024, he could prove too strong once again this week, and his short odds to win the Charles Schwab Challenge reflect this. He’s also been in and around the top three over the past few years at this event, which is promising (47/20 with Betway).
Hideki Matsuyama to clinch a top-10 finish: Although by his admission, things have tailed off for Hideki Matsuyama, he remains a classy operator. Matsuyama is capable of turning on the style at the flick of a switch. If he could pick up his driving accuracy and his putting, then perhaps he could be in the picture at the top of the leaderboard come the weekend. However, a top-10 finish seems more attainable (19/4 with 1xBet).
Jordan Spieth to finish in the top 20: Although Jordan Spieth is not operating at the peak of his powers, he still has moments where it seems like his form of yesteryear could be returning. His form before the PGA Championship looked decent, and he is good at getting himself out of a spot of danger, which will come in handy at Colonial. However, we think gaining a top-20 finish seems more likely (11/10 with Betway).
Tournament Prediction
The Charles Schwab Challenge is always a fun stop on the PGA Tour, and while the first hole is a nice introduction as a relatively easy par-five, there are plenty of challenges at Colonial which could see many top players come unstuck.
While the likes of Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth could do with productive weeks and climb the leaderboard, it’s hard to overlook Scottie Scheffler. Despite a quiet start to the season, Scheffler is now in the groove, and he invariably finds an answer during the clutch moments. Given what we’ve seen from Scheffler, he may seem like an obvious choice, but he’s our pick to clinch the Charles Schwab title.
