Although the prize purse of $2.75 million is slightly smaller than what was on offer at the Italian Open, the BMW International Open boasts a distinguished history, with Ernie Els, Sandy Lyle, and Colin Montgomerie among those named on the honours board.

Golfclub München Eichenried has hosted over 20 editions of the BMW International Open, and this parkland course stretches over 7,280 yards, featuring several water hazards and 90 bunkers.

Course form isn’t as crucial as it once was, and some past winners have triumphed having previously missed a few cuts in Munich. But how will things unfold this time around? We’ve headed over to reputable golf betting sites and underlined our golf tournament predictions with some value odds.

Aside from assessing their past performances at the BMW International Open, this should provide food for thought for bettors in terms of how they might get on this time around.

Martin Kaymer

One of the home heroes taking his place in the field is Martin Kaymer. As a former Major champion, Kaymer’s credentials are unquestioned, and he will have fond memories of the BMW International Open where he triumphed in 2008 on the tournament’s 20th anniversary.

At the age of 23 years and 177 days, Kaymer was, and remains the youngest winner of the tournament. He has come close to replicating his success on several occasions in the past, but he hasn’t managed to do so.

While power off the tee used to be prioritized, accuracy is perhaps more important. If Kaymer is dialled in with his driver, he could well be in and around the top end of the leaderboard.

Patrick Reed

Despite spending most of his time on the LIV Tour these days, Patrick Reed will be making just his second appearance at the BMW International Open. On his debut last year, Reed impressed, finishing T13, and he is a fierce competitor.

As one of two former Masters champions in the field, Reed’s driving has been okay, however, he has been much better with his approach play. His irons will need to be in full working order if he’s going to mount a significant challenge.

Luke Donald

A serial winner on the DP World Tour, Luke Donald is perhaps best known for his exploits as Ryder Cup captain, and he will be looking to follow up on the 2023 success in Rome by defending the coveted trophy at Bethpage Black, New York, in September.

Donald will be making his third successive appearance in Munich, and the affable Englishman, who has made fleeting appearances on the DP World Tour this term, would be a popular winner. Whether he can do so remains to be seen.

  1. Patrick Reed to be the first-round leader at the BMW International Open: Fast starts aren’t necessarily a pre-requisite for success in this tournament. Things are set up nicely for what could well be a thrilling BMW International Open. Patrick Reed always raises a few eyebrows, and while he’s capable of producing some fireworks, his driving stats have been rather ordinary this term.

We haven’t had much to go by with Luke Donald, although as mentioned, he will be keeping an eye on Ryder Cup developments, especially with a few qualifying spots up for grabs.

This leads us to Martin Kaymer, a former winner here, and as one of the home favourites, he could well live up to the hype. We fancy Kaymer to step up to the plate and deliver the goods this week.
