Marcel Siem is the man to beat, and 12 months ago, he came through a tense play-off against Tom McKibbin to secure his sixth DP World Tour title. With its breathtaking views from every hole, the Argentario GC plays as a par-71, stretching 6,857 yards, and architect David Mezzacane was responsible for designing the course which weaves through rugged hillside on the front nine.

The back nine meanders in and out of olive groves, and there are several water hazards. Accuracy and power will come in handy this week.To supplement our full golf tournament preview, we’ve whizzed over to top golf betting sportsbooks to infuse some odds to give value to our insights.

Contender News

Not all golf bookmakers will have pre-tournament analysis on players leading into a tournament.

So, to fill any gaps in your knowledge and sharpen your golf betting strategies, we have addressed the recent performances of the main contenders which should inspire you ahead of the first round.

Connor Syme

His first victory on the DP World Tour title at the KLM Open may have come on his 182nd start, but it was well worth the wait! He also became the seventh Scottish winner of the event emulating the likes of Colin Montgomerie and Ken Brown.

The victory also arrested a wretched run of form, as he missed three cuts on the trot before coming home T59 at the Austrian Open.

Syme has arguably fared well with the flatstick, and if he’s firing on all cylinders, he could well be worth backing.

Marcel Siem

Another player with a good track record behind him, Marcel Siem has scooped six DP World Tour titles, but he is the reigning Italian Open champion, so he will be looking to rekindle fond memories.

He’s a bit down on the driving accuracy stats, and the German hasn’t exactly flown out of the blocks in the opening rounds at tournaments. He has hovered around the 71 mark in his past three tournament starts, but at the Austrian Open earlier this month, Siem finished with aplomb, carding an exceptional round of 63.

Going back-to-back is hard at any DP World Tour, but the fact that many sites for betting on golf tournaments shouldn’t be scoffed at.

Kristoffer Reitan

Arguably one of the in-form players on the DP World Tour, Kristoffer Reitan, who is sixth in the Race to Dubai rankings, has shot to prominence this term.

The Norwegian claimed his maiden DP World Tour title at the Soudal Open in May, and he carded a final round of 60 at the Austrian Open which was highly impressive.

Reitan has been trending in the right direction, and apart from a solid putting average, he has been dialled in with his irons. He could be in the mix this week.

Suggested Bets

We’ve sourced some more golf betting odds from our recommended sportsbooks. These golf betting tips could give you some bang for your buck.

  1. Marcel Siem or Kristoffer Reitan to win the Italian Open: Marcel Siem was a popular winner when he triumphed last year, but we can’t overlook the strides that Kristoffer Reitan has made on the DP World Tour this year. Reitan has been fabulous from tee to green, and Siem can turn on the magic when the pressure is on. The special of Siem or Reitan to win the Italian Open seems reasonable (8/5 with Betandyou).

  2. Connor Syme to make the cut: The cut line always provokes plenty of intrigue. Although Syme missed four cuts in a row earlier in the season, he has come into good form, and we don’t think he will be cut adrift this weekend (9/5 with N1Bet).

  3. Winner to be decided via a playoff: The Italian Open has been a close-run affair over the past few years, and there have been a couple of play-offs. Siem’s victory was a point in proof, and we wouldn’t be surprised if additional holes were required to determine a winner. The special of the Italian Open to have a play-off could be worth exploring (11/8 with 1xBet).

Tournament Prediction

The Italian Open always marks for fascinating viewing, and there is no reason why this year will be any different. While Conor Syme will have been bouncing after his recent win, his previous performances have dispelled some notions he will be in the winner’s circle this weekend.

Marcel Siem may be a serial winner on the DP World Tour, but his poor putting average and slightly disappointing driving accuracy stats could discount him this week.

SportsBoom is therefore firmly in the Kristoffer Reitan camp. There appears to be no obvious chinks in his game, and he has been trailing a blaze this term. We think he will emerge victorious this weekend, so he’s our pick.
