In many respects, this tournament is a birdie fest, and since 2009, the average winning 72-hole score has been around -20. Being hot with the putter is a necessity, but as this course plays just under 7,300 yards, you don’t need to be big off the tee.

There aren’t too many long par-4s, but there are some great risk-reward pins, making it an appetising prospect pros.

Davis Thompson comes into this event with a target on his back after clinching the title in routine fashion 12 months ago. A final round score of -7 saw him surge to a four-stroke victory (-28) to leave his rivals trailing in his wake.

Ben Griffin

Judging by his SG: Putting and Putting Average stats, this is a cause for concern; however, Thompson will rekindle fond memories of his fairytale ending at TPC Deere Run last year, where he outclassed his rivals, crossing the finishing post with consummate ease.

His form has been a bit mixed, but you wouldn’t want to discount him!

Nico Echavarria

A player who was arguably a bit late to the party but is truly starting to shine! Yes, Nico Echavarria has caught our eye with his supreme putting, and he was in glorious form at the Rocket Classic last weekend.

Throughout the tournament, he barely put a foot wrong, and a pair of 66s underlined his quality. Yes, his driving stats are a bit on the low side, but if he can engineer a few birdie opportunities this weekend, he could be in the mix

To round off our golf betting tips, we have picked out three value lines that might be worth exploring further.

Davis Thompson to clinch a top-10 finish: Mounting a successful title defence on the PGA Tour is always a tough order, and while Davis Thompson is carrying plenty of favour, his form has wavered a little bit over the past few months. Tournament Prediction

There is plenty to play at the John Deere Classic, and it is a huge field, containing 156 players. Davis Thompson, who was a first-time winner on the PGA Tour at this event, has been relatively consistent lately, but he hasn’t exactly been scintillating, so we might steer clear of him.

Nico Echavarria, on the other hand, has been more dialled in with his putting, and he could be a big feature. However, Ben Griffin is one of those players who has gone from strength to strength this season, and with a couple of wins already under his belt, he could be a major threat here. We’re backing Griffin to come out on top this weekend.
