Myrtle Beach Classic 2025 Preview: Odds, Tips & Predictions

The PGA Tour is set for a busy week as the Myrtle Beach Classic returns for its second year in South Carolina on Thursday, May 8. This tournament will run alongside the Signature Event, the Truist Championship, which was formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship. While the Truist Championship will feature many of golf’s leading lights, there will be a familiar, if slightly weakened, field at the Myrtle Beach Classic.

However, that won’t put off online golf betting sites, which will contain a mixture of outrights and props designed to attract bettors.

Conceived by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1948, Dunes Golf and Beach Club is a par 71, covering 7,347 yards. There have been a series of renovations in the intervening years before the Myrtle Beach Classic debuted in 2024.

Chris Gotterup is the defending champion, storming to a six-shot victory with a total of -22, and he is arguably one of the standout players in the field.

The fairways are quite tight at Dunes, however, it seems that putting accuracy will be key this week.

But how will things unfold? We’ve paid a visit to reputable golf betting sportsbooks, and we’ve supplied odds and insights to influence our golf tournament predictions for this event.

Pre-Tournament Betting Odds and Win Probability

A fundamental part of any golf tournament preview is to assess the favourites and odds movements in the markets.

We’ve shared some pre-tournament betting odds from a reliable sports betting operator to see how the land lies ahead of the first round.

  • Mackenzie Hughes – 18/1 (19.00) – 5.3%
  • Tom Kim – 20/1 (21.00) – 4.8%

Key Player Updates

Golf betting odds are based on a raft of stats, including past performances and recent form.

Within that, it’s best to chew over performance metrics, such as driving accuracy and greens in regulation to see which players could do well at the Myrtle Beach Classic. We’ve highlighted three players in our comparison table.

Contender News

Golf stats for betting are always useful, and ahead of the Myrtle Beach Classic, we’ve fleshed out some more details that could be in the mix come the deep end of the tournament.

This may influence your golf betting strategies in terms of where to place your money.

Chris Gotterup

As the inaugural champion last year, Chris Gotterup wasn’t troubled at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Perhaps what was most interesting was that while Gotterup ranked just 44th for SG: Total, he was third for SG: Putting, which indicates how important being effective with the flatstick is at Dunes.

The American will have a target on his back this week, but his results have been disappointing, missing just over half of the 15 tournaments he’s participated in.

That said, his last three events has shown he has shrugged off his early-season struggles with three top-20 finishes in a row.

Gotterup has fond memories of the Myrtle Beach Classic, and he has to be considered as a contender.

Mackenzie Hughes

Mackenzie Hughes is at times a bit of a curious case. He’s been well off it in terms of his putting and approaches to the green, but he’s a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, and he’s got the credentials.

Yes, the Canadian has plucked up a couple of top-10 finishes, and there was plenty to admire about the way he handled himself at the RBC Heritage last month.

He shot four sub-70 rounds, and on the Friday, he carded a 66 where there few blemishes on his scorecard.

Hughes has had plenty of backing from golf bookmakers, and he could be the dark horse this week if he settles down quickly.

Tom Kim

One of the higher-ranked players in the field (41), Tom Kim can light things up when in full flow.

He’s due a good performance as his best performance this term came at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where he was T7, but he’s coming off a missed cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Kim fares better than Hughes and Gotterup for driving accuracy, and he’s been more reliable than both with the putter, so he has the edge in those departments. If everything clicks this week, he could be one to watch.

Suggested Bets

The best betting sites for golf will try to offer value for money in terms of the types of markets they serve up.

We have gone through some of the operators and handpicked a few lines that might be worth tapping into ahead of the first round.

  1. Mackenzie Hughes to win the Myrtle Beach Classic – Although it has been a while since Mackenzie Hughes last won on the PGA Tour, he is one of those players who can sneak under the radar and produce a surprise. Bar the missed cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, his results have improved over the past month or so, and he could tame Dunes if he’s dialled in (18/1 with Betway).

  2. Tom Kim to lead after Round 3 – The PGA Tour has been hugely predictable this season, although in recent weeks, we have seen a few runaway victories. Tom Kim will have been hurting after being cut at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and perhaps in a twist of things, the South Korean could have a great start to the weekend and be in the lead going into the final day. Kim to be at the summit of the leaderboard after round three isn’t too fanciful (20/1 with Stake).

  3. Myrtle Beach Classic to be decided within 72 holes – We only have one edition of the Myrtle Beach Classic to go by, but it was a pretty emphatic victory by Chris Gotterup. We think this tournament could be decided within the regulation 72 holes rather than requiring a playoff, and this outcome carries tasty odds.

Tournament Prediction

Although the Myrtle Beach Classic is a relatively novel addition to the PGA Tour, the three-hole stretch from 11 through 13, known as Alligator Alley, could catch some players out.

While Chris Gotterup will want to mount a successful defence of the title he won 12 months ago, he’s been out of sorts of late, and he’s not showing the kind of form we were hoping for from him.

Instead, we’re going with Mackenzie Hughes to burst through the pack this week. The Canadian is often underrated, but he has proved to be a strong starter, and he could be in the mix come the weekend. In terms of golf betting tips, we think Hughes to win the Myrtle Beach Classic seems to be a decent shout.
