The Riveira Maya Open, which sees the LPGA Tour return to Mexico for the first time in eight years, means the Mayakoba course is the only track to host PGA Tour, LIV Golf, LPGA, AJGA, and LACC events.

As this will be the first edition of this event, there isn’t much to go by, however, the course stretches over 6,500 yards, playing as a par-72.

A total prize purse of $2.5million is in the offing, meaning there is plenty of incentive to do well. To set the tone, we’ve provided a full golf tournament preview and sprinkled some odds to inspire you ahead of the first round.

Pre-Tournament Betting Odds and Win Probability

As with any given LPGA Tour tournament, it’s vital to swing by one of the most reputable golf betting sportsbooks to see how the outrights are shaping up.

The pre-tournament odds provided a strong clue as to how sports betting operators see things.

•    Rio Takeda – 7/1 (8.00) – 12.5%
•    Charley Hull – 10/1 (11.00) – 9.1%

Contender News

To put our golf predictions into a bit more context, we’ve gone behind the odds, and we’ve shared some thoughts on three players that could shake things up this week at the Riviera Maya Open.

Our views have been shaped by performance metrics and recent appearances, so see what we have to say if you are looking to tweak your golf betting strategies.

Rio Takeda

With one win under her belt on the LPGA Tour this term, which came at the Blue Bay LPGA in March, Rio Takeda is blossoming.

Although she’s only 22 years old, Takeda has missed just one cut from 10 starts, and she has posted five top-10 finishes, representing a decent return.

This is the Japanese star’s rookie season on the LPGA Tour, and she has caught the eye. Her GIR percentage is excellent, and if she’s dialled in with her ironplay, she could be in the mix come the weekend.

Charley Hull

One of the more experienced players on the LPGA Tour, Charley Hull has been around for over a decade, and she continues to impress. The British star has amassed three top-20 finishes from her past three starts, and she will be looking to add to her two career wins to date.

Recently, Hull has been accustomed to fast starts, as highlighted by her blistering round of 63 in the opening round of the Ford Championship, and she is currently 15th in the world rankings.

A win this week would do her confidence the world of good ahead of the US Open, but she needs to pick up her driving stats.

Hye-Jin Choi

Although she’s been on the LPGA Tour for three years, Hye-Jin Choi is still looking to break her duck.

The 25-year-old Korean has had some promising results, including a T11 at the HSBC Women’s World Championship, and she is carrying favour at the best betting sites for golf.

It will be fascinating to see if she can get over the line, so she will be one to watch out for this week.

Suggested Bets

Apart from outright golf betting odds, we’ve also drawn attention to other specials ahead of the Riviera Maya Open for you to follow up on:

  1. Rio Takeda to win the Riviera Maya Open: Rio Takeda has already made her mark on the LPGA Tour, and as mentioned, this is only her first full season. Apart from her impressive GIR round, she’s had 30 sub-par rounds, more than any other player on the Tour this season, and she could catch fire. Takeda to win the Riviera Maya Open seems to carry some weight (8/1 with Betway).

  2. Charley Hull to clinch a top-10 finish: Charley Hull has a storied career on the LPGA Tour, and she always throws herself head-first into any challenge. Although wins have been hard to come by in recent years, Hull is no stranger to the top 10, and she’s placed in the top 10 on 39 occasions during her career. There is no reason to suggest why Hull can’t grow that tally to 40 this weekend (3/2 with BetWinner).

  3. Hye-Jin Choi to be the Top Korean Finisher: Although a few big stars are skipping this event, the Riviera Maya Open will still be stacked with talent. There are plenty of Koreans in the field who could light things up this week. While Sei Young Kim is arguably more heralded in terms of world ranking, Hye-Jin Choi has shone with the driver, and she is trending in the right direction, so she gets the nod from us with our golf betting tips (5/2 with Betandyou).

Tournament Prediction

Although the Riviera Maya Open is something of an unknown proposition given this year will be the inaugural edition, it should still make for fun viewing, and Charley Hull is looking in good shape. She has planned her schedule well this season, and there have been signs that her barren run could be coming to an end.

Hye-Jin Choi has also made strides, and her driving accuracy suggests she could find plenty of fairways this week. That said, Rio Takeda has already had a taste for winning on the LPGA Tour this season, and she’s enjoying her golf. She has generally looked immaculate from tee to green, and she could chalk up plenty of birdies this week. Takeda represents value, and she is our pick to land the Riviera Maya Open.
