Excitement is building up for this event, and this field will have combined for 68 PGA Tour wins.
Deemed Detroit’s premier golfing tournament, the event could well be a birdie fest, and Tony Finau holds the record for the lowest-winning score of -26 which he achieved back in 2022.
The 2020 edition, meanwhile, saw a scoring average of 70.06, denoting the lowest of the par-72s throughout the campaign.
The Donald Ross-designed course could see Finau’s record come under threat, and the Rocket Classic carries a significant prize purse of $9.6 million along with 500 FedEx Cup points.

Contender News
To consolidate our findings from our recommended golf betting sportsbooks, it’s time to shed some light on the main contenders ahead of the Rocket Classic.
Factors such as current form and past performances are key aspects when golf bookmakers compile the prices.
Cam Davis
The undisputed king of the Rocket Classic, Cam Davis stands out as a two-time winner, and he is the only player to have achieved this feat.
Moreover, the Australian has only won on the PGA Tour twice and these victories came at the Rocket Classic. While his approach to the greens and driving stats have been ordinary, he has salvaged some creditability with the flatstick.
While he was left lagging at the US Open, finishing T64, Davis and the Rocket Classic seem to go hand-in-hand, and this course is tailor-made to his game. A third triumph for Davis isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
Patrick Cantlay
An eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, Patrick Cantlay knows what it takes to get over the winning line. The American has missed just two cuts, and although these came at the majors, he has been in and around the top 10 lately.
At the Truist Championship last month, Cantlay settled into the groove early on, carving out an opening round of 64, and he finished T4. Of his performance metrics, Cantlay has been scintillating with the irons, and the Detroit Golf Club offers up plenty of birdie opportunities judging by the low scores of yesteryears. Cantlay, who finished runner-up in 2022, will be looking to go one better this time, and he is worth giving serious consideration.
Tony Finau
Even though he has slipped under the radar, Tony Finau is also a former Rocket Classic champion. His score of -26 in 2022 remains the mark to beat, and the American, when firing on all cylinders, can be unstoppable.
While he may rank well for longest drives (11th), Finau needs to pick up more strokes in and around the greens. If he can rediscover the form he showed here a couple of years ago, he could be there or thereabouts.
Suggested Bets
At SportsBoom, we are always on the hunt for value. We’ve selected some more golf betting odds which could help bettors yield some profits at the Rocket Classic.
Patrick Cantlay to finish in the top 10 at the Rocket Classic: Given his credentials and the fact he had a near-miss at the Rocket Classic, Patrick Cantlay could provide some value for punters. His SG: Total and SG: Tee-to-Green stats make for impressive reading, and he is capable of shooting low. A top-10 finish seems a very feasible prospect for Cantlay (8/5 with BC.Game).
Cam Davis to be the first-round leader at the Rocket Classic: Cam Davis seems to save his best for the Rocket Classic, and he could get off to a barnstorming start this week. The chances of him snatching the lead after the first round could be worth latching onto in terms of golf betting tips (11/7 with Stake).
Tony Finau Over 4.5 birdies in the first round: The birdies specials always hold sway, especially at the Rocket Classic, which could well be a birdie fest. The chance of Finau notching up five or more birdies in the opening round seems quite tempting (12/8 with 1xBet).
Tournament Prediction
The Rocket Classic is a key cornerstone summer tournament, and this year’s edition could be more open than ever. Of course, there is a heavy American presence, and it will be fascinating to see how Patrick Cantlay gets on. He’s suffered heartbreak at the Detroit Golf Club before, and while his iron game looks robust, there are lingering question marks over his putting.
The same could be said of Tony Finau, and he’s yet to hit full throttle. Given what we have seen of Cam Davis, the Australian is well-placed to add another Rocket Classic title to his collection. Davis usually provides box-office viewing at this tournament, and here’s our pick to enter the winner’s circle once again.
