There will be a bit of a buzz around Maja Stark, who clinched her first Major at the US Women’s Open with a final score of -7, becoming just the sixth Swede to land a Major.

With its links-style feel, the Bay Course is characterised by its dramatic seaside views, deep bunkers, and undulating greens.Last year, Linnea Strom prevailed at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, taking the title on a play-off, but the 144-player field is stacked with talent.

Several of the world’s top-ranked players will tee it up, including Nelly Korda and Jeeno Thitikul. This tournament carries a $1.75 million prize purse along with 500 CME Points. But how will things pan out? We’ve provided a full golf tournament preview and supplied some golf tournament predictions, so don’t swerve this page!

Contender News

Some golf betting sportsbooks will run some cursory odds on the top players ahead of any given tournament.

However, at SportsBoom, we like to dig a little deeper. We have run the rule over the past performances of the key contenders, and have divulged some insights into how they might fare at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Jeeno Thitikul

Okay, Jeeno Thitikul turned in a mediocre display at the US Women’s Open, succumbing to her first missed cut of the campaign. However, let’s not forget that the Thai sensation, who won the week before at the Mizuho Americas Open, has largely contended at most tournaments, and she is an undoubted threat.

Judging by her iron play and her putting stats, Thitikul could well engineer plenty of birdie opportunities at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, and she could shoot a low score this week.

She always carries plenty of favour at the best betting sites for golf, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Thitikul ends up on top of the pile!

Nelly Korda

Despite being pipped to the post at the US Women’s Open where she finished T2, Nelly Korda is still on top of the world rankings, and she has plenty to smile about.

The American has chalked up three top-15 finishes in a row, and although she got off to a slow start at the Chevron Championship, for example, carding a round of 77, she bounced back strong to clinch a T14 berth.

Korda is long off the tee, and there will be an emphasis on accuracy given the deep bunkers in play at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. We always enjoy watching Korda in action, and in terms of golf betting tips, she could be there or thereabouts.

Maja Stark

Judging by her results, there seemed to be little indication that Maja Stark would be in contention at the US Women’s Open, let alone win it.

However, she eased to victory and claiming a Major is a significant game-changer. Naturally, there will have been wild celebrations, and perhaps there could be a hangover coming into the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

In terms of her stats, her approach play is decent, but she has let herself down a bit with a putting. The ShopRite LPGA Classic has some unforgiving greens, but if Maja Stark can get the flatstick firing, you wouldn’t want to rule her out.

Suggested Bets

Having shared the outrights for potential winners, we have headed back to the bookies and unearthed some value markets with more golf betting odds for you to chew on.

  1. Jeeno Thitikul or Nelly Korda to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic: With the world’s top two players teeing up this week, it could be a thrilling battle of the wills. Both have largely been in excellent form, although Jeeno Thitikul will want to make amends after missing the cut at the US Women’s Open. Nelly Korda, meanwhile, often provides the fireworks, and she can be hard to reel in. A special of either Thitikul or Korda to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic could be worth tapping into (6/4 with BetWinner).

  2. Maja Stark to make the cut: The cut line is always worth paying attention which will be drawn after the second round. Maja Stark is coming off the back of a victory at the US Women’s Open, but being a Major champion comes with a new set of expectations. Whether she will contend this weekend remains to be seen, but she could well make the cut, and this market often represents value (8/5 with Stake).

  3. Winner to be decided without a play-off: Last year, a play-off was needed to crown a winner, and Linnea Strom took the honours. Interestingly, the median score over the past few editions has been -14, and it could be a low score that decides the champion. However, we think the ShopRite LPGA Classic could finish in the regulatory holes with no extra time required which might be worth checking out (9/6 with 1xBet)

Tournament Prediction

While the US Women’s Open has just finished, thoughts are already quickly turning ahead to the next major, the Women’s PGA Championship, and the ShopRite LPGA Classic marks an interesting juncture of the season. This week is crammed with talent, and it will be fascinating to see how the Swedish contingent gets on, particularly the US Women’s Open champion Maja Stark.

Perhaps it will be a big ask for Stark to follow up on her exploits last weekend at Erin Hills given the mental exertions required, so maybe it might be best to avoid her.

Instead, it could be a straight shoot-off between Jeeno Thitikul and Nelly Korda, who are generally strong from tee to green, and they have had the results to show for it over the past few months. However, if push comes to shove, Thitikul seems to have a slight edge in the putting department, and she also won more recently which augurs well. Our pick this week is Thitikul to enter the winner’s circle.
