Contender News

After crunching the numbers, let’s take a closer at the three contenders that are gaining traction in terms of golf betting odds.

We’ve provided some useful nuggets of information on their credentials and recent performances which could help you sharpen your golf betting strategies.

Lydia Ko

One of the standout names in the field, Lydia Ko is hungry and eager to add to her Major collection. A missed cut at the Dow Championship stunted her recent progress as her results appeared to be heading in the right direction before that.

Ko’s driving stats have held up well, and she invariably produces in clutch moments. The one thing that is a bit off-putting is her indifferent performances at this event where she finished T39 on her previous appearance at the Evian Championship.

However, the New Zealander can turn on the style at the drop of a hat, and you wouldn’t want to discount her.

Minjee Lee

Minjee Lee has already cracked the code in the biggest events, and her recent win at the Women’s PGA Championship sealed her third Major title. Although there were a few nervy moments, she displayed great poise, and there is still plenty left in the tank this season.

The Australian has been red hot with her putter this term, ranking eighth for putting average, and her approach play has been pretty solid, meaning she could give herself plenty of sighters for birdies. While a 76 at this event in the final round saw her tumble down the leaderboard last year, she’s certainly one to watch this week.

Ayaka Furue

As defending champion, there is always a burden of expectation, and she’s been bobbing along nicely. Park to one side the three missed cuts in her past five events, she will have fond memories of the Evian Championship.

Her driving stats have been impressive, and that will stand her in good stead this week. It will be fascinating to see how she gets on, and perhaps she could be in the mix come the weekend.

Suggested Bets

The best betting sites for golf will supply a diverse range of specials throughout the tournament, and some of these carry value. We’ve headed over to one of our recommended betting tips and unearthed some more golf betting tips to tuck into.

  1. Minjee Lee or Lydia Ko to win the Evian Championship: With plenty of experience and of course, major titles accrued between them, Minjee Lee and Lydia Ko are strong frontrunners, and they have proved they can handle things well when the going gets tough. A decent special of either to win the Evian Championship could be worth unlocking (4/1 with Betway).

  2. Ayaka Furue to finish in the top 10: While her results have been on a slight downward spiral in recent weeks, Ayaka Furue will have gained a lot of confidence from securing her maiden title at the Evian Championship last year. A top-10 finish is certainly plausible this time, and it could be worth checking out (6/5 with BetWinner).

  3. Winning margin to be by 2+ strokes: While last year’s edition of the Evian Championship was quite tight, decided by one stroke, going down to the final hole, there have been runaway winners in the past. The winning margin line offers value, and a victory margin of 2+ strokes is feasible (11/6 with 1xBet).

Tournament Prediction

As the only Major tournament in the women’s game staged in Europe, there is always plenty of buzz for the Evian Championship. This year will be no different. Akaya Furue inevitably will come under the microscope as the defending champion, and while she has the potential to go back-to-back, it hasn’t been supported by her inconsistent results.

Meanwhile, Lydia Ko’s approach play has been a little suspect compared to her rivals, and this is the sort of course that can chew and spit you back up if you aren’t careful. Minjee Lee, meanwhile, should be feeling refreshed after a couple of weeks off. Although she only recently added to her Major haul, all facets of her game seem to be flowing nicely, so she’s our tip to win this week.
