The PGA Tour will set up shop in Philadelphia on Thursday, May 8, for the Truist Championship, and it is bound to make for fascinating viewing. A strong field headlined by World No.2 Rory McIlroy will tee it up at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, and the players will be fine-tuning their preparations ahead of the second Major of the campaign, the PGA Championship, next week. Having taken a mini break in between the Masters and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans where he finished 12th playing alongside longtime friend Shane Lowry, Rory McIlroy will be dialled in for the Truist Championship as he does some final prep ahead of the PGA Championship.
Currently first for SG: Off the Tee and second for SG: Total, the main concern is McIlroy’s driving accuracy percentage where he is way down on the rest of his rivals. While the Ulsterman is good at escaping from sticky situations, the Wissahickon Course takes no prisoners, and it could be a tougher week than expected.
Given McIlroy’s credentials and hunger for success, he will relish this week, and he will be in the mix.
Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has had a bit of a barren spell by his high standards, and you have to go back to 2023 when he won his last PGA Tour title, the ZOZO Championship.
There always seems to be a burden of expectation, and he invariably carries short odds outrights-wise from golf bookmakers.
The American, who has missed just one cut this term, has had a couple of runner-up finishes, and he usually seems to be knocking at the door.
Perhaps it could open for him this week, but his SG: Putting stats need to improve if that’s going to happen.
Ludvig Aberg
A stellar player with an excellent record this year, Ludvig Averg is a man on a mission, and he seems primed for golf’s biggest prizes.
Victory at the Genesis Invitational back in February has provided the springboard, and the Swede looks relatively comfortable with his game.
His SG: Off The Tee stat is promising, and while he’s down for SG: Total and SG: Putting, he has plenty of weapons in his locker, and he could be a big threat this week. The best betting sites for golf fancy his chances, and we don’t want to completely discount him!

Truist Championship to be won by four or more shots – Last weekend, Scottie Scheffler was a wire-to-wire winner, surging to an eight-stroke victory, finishing on -31, and that represented the joint-lowest total in PGA Tour history. He is a force of nature, but judging by recent final rounds at the Truist Championship, the winner has eased to the finishing line. A victory margin of four shots could be worth following up on in terms of golf betting tips (3/1 with Stake).
Tournament Prediction
As a designated Signature Event, the Truist Championship has plenty of prestige, and with $3.6 million going to the winner, it’s worth doing well in.
This field is stacked with talent, and naturally, there will be a lot of attention placed on Rory McIlroy, and his Masters win was a defining moment in a career littered with achievements, but there has also been plenty of pain along the way.
The Ulsterman could be a prominent feature, but he’s not the only player who could catch fire this week. We’re particularly excited about Ludvig Aberg. The Swede, who won the Genesis Invitational, earlier this season, may not have had the most fabulous set of results of late, but he can go on the birdie trail and he’s box office viewing. The odds seem fair for him, and we’re going with Aberg to clinch the Truist Championship.
