Contender News 

For us, the top three of Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm must always warrant respect. Scheffler comes into this tournament in a really positive run of form. He is playing consistent golf at the moment, and he will no doubt be hoping he is able to navigate his way through this trying Oakmont course. 

For Rory and Rahm, they both hold powerful and explosive games. They are out of the gates quickly and so the only question mark around their ability is whether or not they are able to stay relevant all weekend.

Other contenders which deserve our attention, Xander Schauffele will be hungry to consolidate his PGS Championship win with another major trophy, and he seemingly always enjoys the US Open. Colin Morikawa is finding a playing rhythm again and so he is always a danger. 

Patrick Cantlay has incredible talent but just doesn’t seem capable of finding a positive performance at a major. If he gets going, he could absolutely rip through this field. Jordan Spieth will be fresh from injury and so whether or not he is ready remains to be seen – however, you simply cannot count him out.

Scottie Scheffler to Win

His performances in 2025 suggest that he is the player to beat and if he is able to put together his best weekend of golf, he might be an insurmountable challenge for the rest of the field. Back him at 5/2 (3.5) with Pin up.

Ludvig Aberg (Top 10 Finish)

Aberg is a player with a positive iron play. At a course which will no doubt test the intricacies of his game, having that weapon in his locker should allow him to find a strong finish. 21/10 (3.1) with Betway. 

Best Placed Former Champion: Brooks Koepka

He loves this tournament and will always approach it with the same sort of grittiness and aggression which saw him become champion. Back Koepka to lead the past winners pack here at 4/1 (5.0) with Pinnacle.

Tournament Prediction

SportsBoom’s pick is firmly in the camp of Scottie Scheffler. He is justifiably the man to beat here, but given the tricky course that is Oakmont, it isn’t the sort of bet which should hinge your weekend.
