While this is an ATP 250 event, there is a chance to grab some much-needed ranking points for the game’s lesser lights.

The courts may play much slower than some of the other hard courts on the ATP Tour, but this event is normally well attended by tennis enthusiasts.

Anyway, to whet your appetite, we have provided a full betting preview complete with odds and tips ahead of the first round, so give this your full attention.

Pre-Winston-Salem Odds and Win Probability

The 2024 edition of the Winston-Salem Open was a blast from start to finish, but who is carrying favour with the bookmakers?

We’ve headed over to one of our preferred online sports betting operators, and handpicked some pre-match betting odds for you to mull over.

  1. Lorenzo Sonego – 7/1 (8.00) – 12.5%

  2. Sebastian Korda – 19/2 (10.50) – 9.5%

Head-to-Head Record (Lorenzo Sonego vs Sebastian Korda)

There is usually plenty of excitement drummed up for the Winston-Salem Open given its proximity in the tennis calendar to the US Open.

As part of our tournament prep, we have delved into the archives and plugged some tennis stats for betting which could be a source of inspiration.

More pertinently, we have assessed the records of a couple of players who could reach the latter stages of the event. Between them, Lorenzo Sonego and Sebastian Korda have claimed six ATP Tour titles, and they will still feel they can pick up a few more during their careers.

There have been a few close clashes over the years, mainly at 250 level, and Sonego goes into the Winston-Salem Open as the reigning champion having thrashed Michelsen in the final 12 months ago.

Korda, meanwhile, has slipped down the rankings, but he will be hoping to break back into the top 30. A win in North Carolina therefore would do him the world of good. Below, we have analysed the tale of the tape between Sonego and Korda to give you a flavour of how things have unfolded in the past.

Last Five Meetings

  • January 10, 2024: (Adelaide Invitational Round of 16): Sebastian Korda beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (10)
  • September 23, 2022: (Metz quarter-finals): Lorenzo Sonego beat Sebastian Korda 6-4, 6-4
  • September 30, 2021: (San Diego Round of 16): Lorenzo Sonego beat Sebastian Korda 6-4, 6-3
  • May 26, 2021: (Parma Open Round of 16): Sebastian Korda beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-1, 7-5
  • February 25, 2021: (Montpellier Open Round of 16): Lorenzo Sonego beat Sebastian Korda 6-3, 6-2

Players Form

Going through the best betting sites for tennis might contain basic information on the top players, such as rankings or most recent wins.

However, to inform our tips and predictions and to improve your chances of nailing your tennis betting strategies, we have shared some information on three players that could have a serious run at the Winston-Salem Open.

Lorenzo Sonego

The Italian has been making serious headway over the past 12 months. Safely sitting inside the world’s top 40, Lorenzo Sonego stormed to victory in the Winston-Salem Open in 2024, marking his fourth ATP Tour title, and he dominated from the start against home hopeful Alex Michelson.

Moreover, at the time, he became just the 11th active player to lift a title on outdoor hard, indoor hard, clay, and grass. His run to the Winston-Salem Open title was achieved without dropping a set, but he’s 15-19 this season in terms of win/loss record.

He has shown what he can produce on hard earlier in the season, most notably at the Australian Open where he reached the quarter-finals. Given his pedigree at Winston-Salem Open, another deep foray is attainable.

Sebastian Korda

Although his grass court season was limited due to a stress fracture, Sebastian Korda will be hoping to make up for lost time.

He has suffered a series of injuries over the past year or so, but Korda’s talent is undeniable, and his backhand boasts some serious power.

With two ATP Tour titles under his belt, Korda would love to knock Sonego off his perch, but doing so may be easier said than done!

Stefanos Tsitsipas

One of several top 50 players to compete, Stefanos Tsitsipas is a curious case. He split up last month from his coach Goran Ivanisevic, and the two-time Grand Slam finalist has been struggling to capture his best form.

There have been some early exits lately, and for his confidence levels, he will be desperate to make the latter stages to lay a statement of intent ahead of the US Open that he isn’t washed up.

Previous Winston-Salem Open Winners

Some tennis sites for betting will list former champions for events, but as a recap, we’ve recalled the past few winners of the Winston-Salem Open:

  • 2024 – Lorenzo Sonego
  • 2023 – Sebastian Baez
  • 2022 – Adrian Mannarino
  • 2021 – Ilya Ivashka
  • 2019 – Hubert Hurkacz

Suggested Bets

Away from the run-of-the-mill outrights, we’ve got a few more specials that could be worth checking out ahead of the Winston-Salem Open.

  1. Lorenzo Sonego to win the Winston-Salem Open: The Italian revolution in tennis has been clear to see, and Lorenzo Sonego has the wind in his sails. He is a slippery customer, and he has all the tools to go all the way once again this year (4/1 with Sportsbet.io).

  2. Alex Michelson to reach at least the quarter-final: Alex Michelson may have been outclassed by Sonego in last year’s final, but when he’s dialled in, the American can be hard to shake off. A special for Michelson to reach at least the quarter-final seems realistic (5/2 with BetWinner).

  3. Winner of the Winston-Salem Open to be decided in straight sets: If last year’s final is anything to go by, it was a bit of a routine victory for Sonego. We think the final could be one-sided once again, and the winner to be decided in straight sets is one of those tennis betting tips worth latching onto (2/1 with Stake).

Winston-Salem Open: Lorenzo Sonego to Win

The Winston-Salem Open may not have the strongest field, but there are still a few names to pay close attention to.

Stefanos Tsitsipas for once could sneak under the radar, but his game appears to be riddled with errors, and his confidence is low. Sebastian Korda, meanwhile, has had a few injuries over the past 12 months, so perhaps match sharpness may well be his biggest issue. Instead, we think Sonego, who looks comfortable on hard, could replicate his run last year, and snaffle the title. He’s therefore our pick to triumph.
