HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD

This marks the first competitive encounter between Borussia Dortmund and Ulsan HD.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND: CURRENT FORM – WDWWW

Borussia Dortmund have staged a strong comeback following the appointment of Croatian tactician Niko Kovac in February. Back when the German giants were languishing 11th in the Bundesliga standings forcing the managerial switch.
Under the guidance of Kovac, BVB secured UEFA Champions League football on the final matchday, proving the club hierarchy have selected the right man for the job. Displaying their quality within a new structure, Borussia Dortmund reverted from their 4-2-3-1 system to 3-4-2-1, for the second leg of their UCL quarter-final clash against Barcelona.

Discovering being better suited to the latter, winning (3-1) in Germany with striker Serhou Guirassy scoring a hat-trick after the previous setup was smashed to pieces (4-0) in Spain.

Since the beginning of the CWC, Dortmund have stuck with 3-4-2-1 attempting to incorporate new midfield signing Jobe Bellingham into their game plan for the upcoming season. Although, new arrival Yan Couto won’t need much time to adapt seeing as the attack minded Brazilian right-back has played a similar role while on loan at Girona.

The spoils were shared in a goalless draw in their CWC opener with Brazilian club Fluminense, during an intense and cagey affair against opponents that are midway through their league and were possibly better prepared.

Fans at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio were treated to a seven thriller during Borussia Dortmund’s second CWC match against CAF Champions League heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns. BVB suffered an early scare with the perennial South African league winners taking the lead after 10 minutes.

However, the German giants capitalised through some careless defensive mistakes to regain the lead and stretch their advantage to (4-1) at the hour mark, eventually ending the contest at (4-3) after a few misunderstandings between their own players led to more goals for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Following their maximum points haul against Sundowns, BVB manager Kovac commented, “I’m sweating like I’ve just come out of a sauna."
"It was tough going for both teams, but the opposition are used to it. We certainly didn’t give our best performance, but that wasn’t possible today.”

"There were too many simple mistakes and things definitely didn’t run smoothly. The important thing was that we won the game. Nothing else matters.”
Dortmund will be fully focused to score as many goals as possible against Ulsan HD, seeing as the group winners between themselves and most likely Fluminense will be determined by goal difference if both teams are victorious in their final Group F games.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

Serhou Guirassy: Borussia Dortmund are world renown for moulding some the best forwards in recent years. Guirassy seems to be the next big thing to step out of their yellow and black production line of quality footballers. The striker in is red-hot form, scoring 21 goals from 30 Bundesliga appearances but more impressively found the back of the net 13 times in 14 UCL games. His 1,87m presence in the box is a threat aerially combined with ability to drive into spaces powerfully with the ball at his feet, making him the complete package.

Karim Adeyemi: If you’re searching for flair players that keep fans at the edge of their seats, look no further than Adeyemi. Spending large periods on the sidelines last season nurturing a torn muscle fiber in his ankle, Adeyemi looks in superb shape and in excellent touch with the ball currently. Creatively, the winger brings the most to the team on the wider areas but is also in tuned with German teammate Maximilian Beier in the number ten area behind Guirassy with his precise one and two touch combination passes.

Jobe Bellingham: The powerful 19-year-old midfielder has chosen to follow in his brother Jude’s footsteps, opting to continue his career at Dortmund after inspiring Sunderland to Premier League promotion. Rejecting the opportunity to live in his home country and play EPL football seemed an odd move. However, Jobe got off the mark for BVB against Mamelodi Sundowns scoring his first goal to mark his new chapter.

Speaking to media afterwards Jobe claimed, "I practise that so many times, not that exact finish, but arriving late on the edge of the box as a midfielder is something you need to be really good at.”
"If you can score, if you can contribute those kinds of goals a certain amount per season then you are doing really well. I was really pleased because it was something I practised as a kid and at Sunderland so many times, during training, after training. So yeah, I am really proud of it."

BORUSSIA DORTMUND TEAM NEWS

Pivotal figures in central defender Nico Schlotterbeck (meniscus tear) and captain Emre Can (adductor pain) are expected to return later this year.
Dortmund’s players were visibly affected from the intense heat at the TQL Stadium last time out but fortunately have no major injury concerns ahead of this game.
Meanwhile, Carney Chukwuemeka, Maximilian Beier, Yan Couto and Ramy Bensebaini are at risk of suspension for the Round of 16, should they receive another yellow card.

ULSAN HD: CURRENT FORM – LLLDW

Ulsan HD are the reigning champions of the South Korean K League 1 for three consecutive seasons and have found the level of competition at the FIFA CWC challenging. The Tigers were tamed by Brazilian club Fluminense, suffering a (4-2) loss after being ousted (1-0) against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Going into the final matchday, against the group favourites Borussia Dortmund with only pride to play for, Ulsan HD will seek to accomplish the basics and give a good account of themselves.

Adding to the goal tally will surely lift their spirits on their way back home. Lee Jin-hyun arrived late in the box to coolly side foot a first-time finish from a narrow angle against Fluminense, while forward Um Won-sang found the back of the net with a diving header.
A strong performance against the German football powerhouse would offer a silver lining, showcasing the team’s resilience and giving The Tigers’ fans something to cheer as they wrap up their FIFA CWC campaign.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

Erick Farias: The Brazilian striker is the club’s top goal scorer with eight goals from 14 Korean K1 League appearances. The dynamic forward known for his sharp movement, clinical finishing and tireless work rate off the ball in the final third poses a constant threat with his pace, technical ability and eye for goal in tight spaces.

Darijan Bojanic: The 30-year-old Swedish midfield anchor tallied two goals and two assists from 10 league appearances. However, his real test lies in controlling the midfield battle against Pascal Gross and Felix Nmecha, an area that could determine Ulsan's share of possession. His composure and distribution under pressure will be key to Ulsan’s attacking rhythm.

Milosz Trojak: The 1,91m central defender will have his hands full during set pieces, seeing as Borussia Dortmund’s players are significantly taller than most his teammates. Arriving from Polish club Korona Kielce earlier this month Trojak has been recruited with this specific task in mind. His aerial presence could prove vital in neutralizing Dortmund’s threat from corners.

ULSAN HD TEAM NEWS

Won-Sang Um claimed an assist and a goal against Fluminense but was forced off with an injury after 75 minutes. Then with five minutes left on the clock, Seung-beom Ko was also substituted off with a knock, leaving Ulsan short on options in the wider areas. Meanwhile, defender Myeong-kwan Seo was sidelined in their CWC opener against Sundowns.

  3. Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals - Yes: With the same reasoning in mind, we suggest taking this option at lucrative odds. Use caution when adding this to a multiple, it’s safer as a standalone bet. (245/100 with Betway) (246/100 with Stake) (247/100 with Betfred)

PREDICTION: BORUSSIA DORTMUND TO WIN

Ulsan HD have suffered two defeats and with nothing to play for except pride, they could take Dortmund by surprise in the first half. Although, with the sheer amount of quality BVB possess within their new structure under manager Niko Kovac, it seems an unattainable goal for the South Korean club.
Despite that, Ulsan may look to frustrate Dortmund early on, relying on disciplined defending and quick transitions to create moments of danger, especially through pacey striker Erick Farias.
