Maresca’s style, nicknamed “Marescaball”, is built on balance and is characterised not only by maintaining ball possession, creating chances, and building plays from deep, with goalkeepers and defenders passing out from the back, but also remaining defensively solid. 

The Blues concluded the season with four victories and a loss, which saw them claim fourth spot and Champions League qualification for next season, thanks to Maresca’s leadership. This form, along with recently lifting the Conference League title, will give them the confidence to go a step further and take on this tough challenge, potentially putting their name in lights once again on the global stage. 

The amount of talent and stardom in this Chelsea squad is a joy to watch, as seen in the first matchup against LAFC, which could cause Flamengo plenty of problems if they get into gear early on in this exciting clash.

Marc Guiu is in the squad as well, even though the Spaniard is expected to be loaned out next term. Notable omissions from the squad include Wesley Fofana, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Axel Disasi, and Ben Chilwell.
