Monterrey vs Inter Milan Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Venue: Rose Bowl Kickoff Time: 02:00 (UK Time) Inter Milan will no doubt be looking forward to kicking off their Club World Cup campaign when they face Monterrey. The Italian giants would have suffered through their finish to the 2024/25 domestic season and a fresh start in the United States – under new management – would have come at the perfect time.

Head-To-Head Record

There are no previous meetings between these two sides.

Monterrey Current Form – WLWWL

Monterrey come into this encounter as a side devoid of any real confidence, especially after losing their Clausura final-eight clash against Toluca. This is their sixth appearance at the Club World Cup (last appearing in 2021) and they secured their ticket to the States thanks to their win over Club America in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.
They will know that they face a tough task here but do not expect them to just bow down to their Italian opponents

Key Players to Watch

German Berterame
He will once again lead the line for Monterrey here. Registering a host of goals and scoring opportunities for his side, the Argentinian attacking ace will shoulder the weight of his side’s threat against their Italian opponents.

Sergio Ramos
He returns to captain the side and given his experience in this tournament as well as across Europe, their central defensive system is naturally bound to increase. Expect the usual robust and physical approach to defending from the now 39-year-old, which is always such a welcomed sight.

Canales
Often seen as the dead-ball specialist for his side, Canales has scored 31 goals for the club since joining two years ago. He is incredibly consistent and often is able to register an attacking assist at the most crucial of times. Keep an eye on him here.

Monterrey Team News

At the time of writing, Monterrey is only without Carlos Salcedo who is still sidelined with an injury.

Inter Milan Current Form – DWDWL

The Italian side come into this tournament off the back of a disappointing domestic finish. Cristian Chivu has replaced Simone Inzaghi as the manager after the European final defeat to PSG – Chivu is likely to see this tournament as an opportunity to find a bit of redemption.
The Italians are by no means prolific scorers, but given the class they have up front, it would be quite a surprise to see them draw a blank at the Rose Bowl.

Key Players to Watch

Marcus Thuram
Assuming he isn’t rested by the new manager, he will likely play as one-half of the attacking threat Inter hold. His goal-scoring ability is simply second to none and he is likely to contribute to their attacking threat here.

Lautaro Martinez
Another member of this Inter side who is likely to welcome the clean slate of the FIFA Club World Cup. While his goalscoring ability is without question, he began to struggle for consistency. Nevertheless, keep an eye on him here.

Sommer
The experienced goalkeeper has seemingly fallen from grace in certain respects, but he is nevertheless a player of considerable ability and able to contribute to the success of his team from between the sticks.

Inter Team News

Mehdi Taremi is still grounded in Iran amid airstrikes in the country and Piotr Zielinski is a doubt with his calf strain. Other than that, Inter have a full squad able to compete in the club competition.

Suggested Bets

New players can unlock extra value by claiming a welcome bonus from top sportsbooks before placing their bets on this fixture.

  1. Inter (-1) Handicap: The Italians will likely be out for blood after their Champions League performance. They have a chance to take out their frustrations here against a Mexican opponent not necessarily blessed with the same talent all over the pitch. 6/4 (2.5) with BetWinner

  2. Over 2.5 Goals: Until that horrible defeat in the Champions League final, Inter had only lost one of their last seven matches. Back them to run away with this here. 4/10 (1.4) with Stake

Value Bets

  1. Inter Milan (3:0): Inter have managed to keep clean sheets throughout their domestic season and given the gap in class between these two – respectfully – we back the Italians to run riot without conceding.  10/1 (11.0) with Betway

  2. 1st Ten Minutes (Inter): Another betting angle for a dominant display and early advantage, back Inter to lead within the first ten minutes. 2/1 (3.0) with 1xBet

Prediction: Inter to Win

We have already said it a few times throughout this preview but Inter will be looking to set the record straight after their UEFA Champions League final embarrassment to PSG. Of course, football isn’t played on paper, but if the Italians bring their A-game, we can’t see past a big win.
