Liverpool are preparing to step up their pursuit of Bournemouth's French wonderkid Eli Junior Kroupi, as SportsBoom understands they are ready to intensify their interest in one of Europe’s hottest young attacking talents.
But the Reds are not alone in the chase.
SportsBoom has learned Aston Villa are also firmly in the picture for the exciting 19-year-old forward, setting up a fascinating transfer battle for a player already being tipped for the very top.
Kroupi has exploded onto the scene this season and is already being mentioned in the same breath as French superstar Kylian Mbappé after a sensational breakthrough campaign that has left some of Europe’s elite clubs scrambling for position.
Liverpool believes they possess the pulling power to put themselves at the front of the queue and are increasingly confident they can persuade the French prodigy that Anfield is the perfect destination for the next stage of his career.
EUROPEAN INTEREST
Several heavyweight European clubs, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, have shown previous interest in Kroupi, underlining just how highly regarded he has become across the continent.
Reds boss Arne Slot is understood to be planning firmly for next season and remains confident he will still be leading Liverpool into another campaign.
Sources indicate the Dutchman has personally identified Kroupi as a player capable of becoming one of the Premier League’s standout attacking stars.
Slot has been closely monitoring the youngster's progress and sees him as a talent with enormous potential and a player who could thrive within Liverpool’s attacking system.
However, Villa are watching developments closely too.
RAPID RISE
With European ambitions driving their recruitment plans next season, the Midlands club have also been tracking Kroupi’s rapid rise and believes he possesses the quality to strengthen their options in the final third.
The former FC Lorient youngster has been one of the stories of the season after enjoying a dazzling debut campaign with the Cherries.
Kroupi has scored 12 goals in 31 Premier League appearances and has quickly established himself as one of the division’s most exciting young attacking talents after learning his trade in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
The France Under-21 international has been a breath of fresh air since arriving in English football and has made a seamless transition into senior football.
Now, with Liverpool preparing to make their move and Villa refusing to look elsewhere, an intriguing transfer tug-of-war appears to be gathering pace.
Editor's Insight
Junior Kroupi has undoubtedly been one of the Premier League’s breakout stars this season, and it’s no surprise he is already being linked with a Champions League-level move. Liverpool remains the most attractive destination on paper, but Aston Villa should not be ruled out. The forward would likely be guaranteed more regular minutes in Birmingham, and with Morgan Rogers linked with a major move to Manchester United, Villa could soon have both the funds and the need to move decisively in the market.
