Manchester United flop Jadon Sancho would love to stay at Aston Villa next season, with SportsBoom understanding Villa are exploring a cut-price deal for the winger as he prepares to become a free agent this summer.
United have decided against offering Sancho a new contract, and several Premier League clubs are believed to be circling for the former England star's signature after his Old Trafford nightmare finally reached its end.
The 26-year-old has spent this season at Villa and made 23 Premier League appearances, but his future is already shaping up to be one of the summer's biggest transfer battles.
SportsBoom understands both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are also monitoring the situation closely and are interested in making a move for Sancho. In contrast, Brentford have already made initial enquiries over a deal for the winger as a free agent.
With his United contract winding down and no new offer on the table, Sancho suddenly finds himself with options despite his turbulent few years.
He first returned to his former club Borussia Dortmund in 2023 after falling out of favour at United, before a spell at Chelsea and, most recently, his move to Villa Park.
EYE-WATERING
Sancho's United career never came close to justifying his eye-watering £73million move in 2021.
Across five seasons, he managed only 83 appearances, with just 58 of those coming in the Premier League, and spent long periods frozen out and surplus to requirements.
The winger has not featured for United since heading back to Dortmund in 2023, and his Old Trafford chapter now appears firmly closed.
But while things unravelled in Manchester, Sancho has enjoyed flashes of success elsewhere.
He lifted the UEFA Conference League during his spell with Chelsea and then reached the Champions League final with Dortmund the previous season.
This campaign, he has also helped Villa reach the Europa League final as he attempts to rebuild a career that once made him one of Europe's hottest young talents.
WAGE DEMANDS
Villa boss Unai Emery is understood to be pushing for a permanent deal, although any agreement may hinge on Sancho reducing his previously sizeable wage demands while at United.
The former England international has created 21 chances in 23 league appearances this season and believes he still has plenty left to prove.
And there is no questioning his pedigree. During his explosive spell at Dortmund, he scored 50 goals and produced 64 assists in 137 appearances.
Now Sancho faces perhaps the biggest transfer decision of his career.
Villa could offer him stability at last, but with Bournemouth, Palace and Brentford all lurking, the race for his signature is beginning to heat up.
Editor's Insight
Villa will undoubtedly lead the chase for Sancho, given his relationship with Unai Emery and the stability Villa Park offers. However, clubs like Crystal Palace or Bournemouth could tempt him with the promise of more regular first-team football, as he would likely remain more of a rotational option if he stays permanently.
