The blue half of Merseyside will be buzzing with sheer excitement when the Hill Dickinson Stadium plays host to its first-ever Premier League match. Manager David Moyes emphasised the club has done brilliantly to build a new stadium, but now there has to be building of a football team on the pitch.
Everton were one of the hardest teams to beat during the business end of last season, winning their final three games against Fulham (1-3), Southampton (2-0), and Newcastle (0-1).

However, prior to their opener against Leeds United, Everton failed to win any of their pre-season matches sharing the spoils with Accrington Stanley (1-1), and Manchester United (2-2), suffering defeats at the hands of Blackburn Rovers (1-0), Bournemouth (0-3), West Ham (2-1) and Roma (0-1).

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Beto: Currently experiencing an indifferent form, Beto needs to start scoring to regain his confidence between the sticks. One of the most efficient strikers in the Premier League, his ability to sprint behind defensive lines with his strength and pace usually causes chaos.
  • Iliman Ndiaye: Playing his first season of Premier League football, Ndiaye impressed with a tally of nine goals from 29 starts. A few members of the older guard were underperforming and have made way for the new arrivals. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds United, Ashley Young signed for Ipswich Town, while Mason Holgate and Abdoulaye Doucoure continue their journey in the Saudi Pro League.

Defender Jarrad Branthwaite is doubtful for this clash after sustaining an injury during training prior to their league opener against Leeds United.

BRIGHTON: CURRENT FORM – DWDWW

The youngest Premier League manager, Fabian Hurzeler (32), begins his second campaign at the helm beaming with confidence. His first season at the elite level began with an away trip to Everton as the German tactician left Goodison Park with maximum points courtesy of an emphatic (0-3) victory over Sean Dyche.
In the return fixture, Hurzeler was ousted (0-1) on home soil by the oldest Premier League manager, David Moyes (62), as Iliman Ndiaye calmly converted his penalty from 12 yards out to decide the encounter.

The ongoing transfer saga between Manchester United and Brighton for midfield dynamo Carlos Baleba seems to have reached a standstill, with the Red Devils unable to meet the £100m-plus valuation for the 21-year-old Cameroonian. The Seagulls look destined to keep hold of their player for at least one more season.

Meanwhile, winger Solly March is a month away from making his return following knee surgery, with central defender Adam Webster likely to miss the entire 2025-26 season after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Seagulls have welcomed a handful of new arrivals this transfer window. In defence, Maxim De Cuyper signed from Club Brugge, making his debut against Fulham, while Diego Coppola was an unused substitute.

Winger Tom Watson was recruited from Sunderland after the 19-year-old impressed in the Championship; however, the marquee signing of Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos could very well be the next gem uncovered by Brighton. Kostoulas is only 18 years old but looks physically strong enough to lead the line for a Premier League team.
