The former champions welcome newly-promoted Burnley to Manchester in what is set to be a tactical battle between two very different styles of play. Pep Guardiola’s squad is still getting to grips with the new pressing systems and profiles in the squad, and that is evident in their results so far. 
However, they still keep possession really well and will be coming up against a Burnley side that can thrive without the ball under Scott Parker. The visitors are known for their compact shape and ability to spring quick counters.

The home side has started the Premier League with two wins and two losses in their four appearances so far. City did, however, claim a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over their rivals Manchester United, so the mood inside the camp will be high.

  • Erling Haaland
    Haaland has started the season in clinical form and already has six goals in all competitions and has only played five games in that time. 
  • Jeremy Doku 
    The Belgian international is a bag of tricks and a nightmare to defend against down the wing. Doku bagged his first goal of the season in the Champions League against Napoli and will be high on confidence. 
  • Josko Gvardiol 
    The 23-year-old has just returned from injury and is proving his versatility as he featured at centre-back in his first two games of the season against Manchester United and Napoli respectively. 

Manchester City Team News

The Citizens will be without the services of Mateo Kovacic who has an Achilles injury, Rayan Cherki has a thigh problem, and Omar Marmoush is out with a knee issue. Additionally, John Stones (Muscle) and Rayan Ait-Nouri (Knock) will both be assessed ahead of the visit of Burnley.

Burnley Current Form – LWLL

Scott Parker’s side have won just once in their four games back in the Premier League. There were two good performances in their last couple of games against Manchester United and Liverpool, respectively, where they were just a few minutes away from getting a point in both encounters. Their win in that period did come against a potential rival for the drop in Sunderland, however.

    The former Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur defender brings bags of experience to Parker’s side and will be key in their quest for survival. 
  • Lyle Foster
    The South African international leads the line to an excellent standard for the Clarets. Foster is a great hold-up player and runs into the channels well, while also linking play at the top of the attack. 
  • Jaidon Anthony 
    The English forward has been in great form for Burnley at the start of the season. Anthony has four goal contributions in his five appearances in the competition.

Zeki Amdouni and Jordan Beyer both have knee injuries and will miss the game against Guardiola’s City, but Connor Roberts and Jacob Bruun Larsen should shake off knocks in time for the clash.
