Wolves have been through a difficult pre-season in the build-up to their domestic season, they lost all three of their competitive games. There are obviously questions over where their goals will come this season, but insofar as their squad is concerned, there is a quiet confidence around new arrivals Jhon Arias and of course, Jorgen Strand Larsen. 

Their midfield will be important this season, especially if they remain committed to Vitor Pereira’s 4-2-3-1 shape. Against a Liverpool side who is capable of turning attack into defence swiftly and with ease through those midfield channels – this could be a tough outing.

Key Players to Watch

  • Jorgen Strand Larsen 
    He is a reliable finisher with 14 goals last season alone. Given that his side isn’t likely to see too much of the ball, he will be pivotal to their counter-attacking threats here. He is certainly one to keep an eye on.
  • Jhon Arias 
    His creativity and ability to add flair to the attacking outputs of the team remain vital to Wolves. He is a proven goal scorer who will be hoping to bring that ability to the Premier League.
  • Joao Gomes 
    He is an aggressive and physical presence for Wolves. As far as their hopes of finding a foothold in the game go, he will need to enjoy a really positive performance come the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side enjoyed a far more productive pre-season as well as a fair showing in the FIFA Club World Cup. There is a feeling around Manchester City this season that they will be looking to prove a point – and given the ability in their depth, you wouldn’t be surprised to see them come out of the blocks quickly here. 

They have added to their already talented squad and even trimmed the proverbial fat over the summer break. They will have their tails up here and hopeful of a positive showing.

  • Omar Marmoush
    He has seemingly settled into this City side with ease and grace. There is no doubt that he adds another level to their attacking ability and so he would be well worth keeping an eye on here.
  • Tijani Reijnders 
    A versatile and creative midfielder, he brings a ton of energy and creativity to the middle of the park and will likely see City play through the midfield lines with incredible balance. He has a fair level to live up to, but his ability will no doubt be a welcomed addition to the Premier League. 
  • Matheus Nunes 
    He is up against his former side here and will likely receive a mixed reception from the home faithful. He has adapted to City well and his ability to turn defence into attack will likely be a trait welcomed by his manager. Keep an eye on him here.

City are without Rodri, Phil Foden and Mateo Kovacic for this encounter. Foden is still nursing a knock to his ankle according to early reports and Kovacic is struggling with his Achilles.
