Huddersfield’s Lasse Sorensen: No Fear in the Fight for Championship Return
Lasse Sorensen has stressed Huddersfield should not “fear the pressure” as they try to win back their Championship status. The former Denmark Under-20 international joined the Terriers on a three-year deal this summer in a deal which could be worth half a million pounds to former club Lincoln City.

A New Chapter with the Terriers
The highly rated 24-year-old wing-back is itching to impress having bought into manager Michael Duff’s blueprint for promotion back to the second tier.
“I really enjoyed my time at Lincoln, it served me well coming in as a young player, you develop and I grew as a player,” Sorensen told SportsBoom.com.
No Stranger to Pressure
“But I think everybody knows that Lincoln’s philosophy is get players in young and sell them on.”
“Luckily, I had a good opportunity with the club, but for me it was a no-brainer to move to Huddersfield. I can equally be as happy here.”
“This season is going to be a rebuild and obviously the club is not where it wants to be, but I’m so motivated coming in.”
“It’s a massive club, you only have to look at where the club has been the last ten years, including their time in the Premier League.”
“It really excited to me to be part of a club who have great ambition, so it’s our job to get back up (into the Championship).”
“It’s much easier said than done, but I believe we’ve got the quality and togetherness – everything that you need – to do it.”
A Club with Ambition
Sorensen won Lincoln’s Player of the Season award last term as the Imps narrowly missed out on a League One play-off place with an agonising defeat to Portsmouth on the last day of the season.
But the ambitious defender is looking to use that disappointment as fuel at his new club as they look to achieve a memorable promotion back into the second tier.
I’m sure there’s going to be expectation on us to go straight back up, but for me that’s a privilege to have
Lasse Sorensen
“It’s about not being scared and fearing the pressure.”
“There’s no doubt about it, we will be one of the teams that think we can go up. We need to enjoy that pressure.”
“But it’s so much easier to say than do. A lot of clubs will say ‘we’ve got a chance’, but it’s a good league this year.”
“We’ve got to enjoy the pressure and embrace. We’ve set and target and that’s what we want to achieve.”
Lessons from Past Experiences
The Terriers enjoyed a memorable promotion to the Premier League in the 2016-2017, but after two seasons in the topflight the Yorkshire outfit were relegated in 2019.
They spent five seasons in the Championship, but the club’s worrying fall from grace continued with a shock relegation to League One last season.
“It’s about staying together as a unit and a team,” said Sorensen. “You’ve got a better chance then.”
“With Lincoln last year I think we over-performed; we had a really good season.”
“But it’s about grinding out results and being consistent – and being confident in what you’re doing.”
Settling in and Looking Ahead
“I’ve settled in well. I’ve managed to find myself somewhere to live, but it’s been great so far.”
I’ve really enjoyed pre-season, especially meeting the new lads, but also the same as every pre-season where you’re trying to improve and learn.
Lasse Sorensen
“The team are looking strong, we’re looking good. Everyone is positive for the new season.”
